It was actually a case of Staker assaulting Barry's hand with his jaw. The touch to Hunter was far more comical, especially how he then tried to milk it and make it look worst.

In any event, Barry was going to miss the next few weeks anyway while he recovers from his fractured wrist (which would normally take 6 weeks).

You also thought Peter Caven should have gotten 8 weeks for the vicious headbutt on Pluggers elbow.

they showed it heaps...i watched and recorded the whole thing on ten HD, i know it frame by frame coz of ten...they showed it too much if anything!!!!

Not the Ch10 I was watching. They kept showing the initial shrugging off but stopped short of the "king hit". Maybe the coverage here in the west was just bad?

Barry Hall's act tonight was down right stupid, absolutely not necessary, but he did what he did, and lets face it hes gonna get 5-6 weeks no doubt. Notice how the piss-weak eagles didnt stand up to him? apart from a stage show hunter and a weak beau waters - no one picks on Hall, hes is the toughest player in the afl.

Hall is one of my favourite players for sydney, just his strong presence on the ground is awesome, and its a shame because he was getting into top form after post 2007 surgery.

on the flip side, maybe hall should get back into the ring, angelo hyder would set him up a good career start. I think he would dominate..

That a "team leader" punched another player square in the jaw. How can you or I or anyone defend that?

It was uncalled for and quite rightly fans of this club have a right to upset with one of our "team leaders". I know I think its the lowest act I've seen on the football field in my time watching football. If Hall was the player on the receiving end of the punch everyone on here would be crying Blue Murder and hence therefore, we are correct when we call out Barry Hall for his actions tonight.

Personally I think most of the comments here have been out of order.

Does anyone know the circumstances that may have caused the hit?

What happened happened.
It's done and there will be a suspension.

If you want to be negative, you'd say that Hall has let down the team and had a moment lacking restraint.

If you want some positives, you'd say that this will create a bit of fear in his future opponents, that the suspension will be offset by the purported injury, and that over the last 5 years he's been a good boy and a premiership player.

He's @@@@@@ up. and I'm sure he regrets it.

Lets be careful about shooting the messenger. It was massive incident and Ch10 have every right to show it as many times as possible.

It was their OVERLY negatively biased comments which were made purely in the vision they capture that pissed me off a bit.

In the end however, I doubt they'll have much impact on the verdict.
Would have been great if he made it back onto the ground, but at least there seems to be no resulting injury.

Sorry but any punch thrown when the recipient has no clue it's coming and can therefore not defend himself borders on a dog act.

Apparently Davo had a blinder in the Reserves so that augers well for Swans...hopefully.

I think that is going a bit too far.
It was in the heat of the moment.
A 'dog act' might be a more appropriate description for a king hit that was premeditated and purposefully applied in a surprisal way.

I'd expect this level of hysteria from fans of other clubs, but FFS everybody here has hung him out to dry for a smack in the gob, albeit a bloody good one.

He's messed up, he'll pay the penalty, he's let the team down.....all those things, but considering how he's been treated by the scumps over the past few years I'm amazed he kept his cool this long.

It is not a mitigating circumstance, and not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but the fact that Staker was infringing Hall continuously while the umpire watched on and ignored it is what started this. My theory is that Hall did it because he wanted to send a message to the umpire 'if you won't do your job, I will take matters into my own hand' - at least in an instantaneous enraged reactive primal sort of way.

I think the Swans should at use this opportunity to put some heat on the AFL by issuing a please explain as to why the umpire was watching Hall being repeatedly infringed, and was not doing anything. That constitutes bias.

My thoughts exactly mate, if the umpire did his job and paid a free kick like it should have been, the bull@@@@ would never have happened.

Hmmm so Starker thought he could be all over Hall like a cheap suit, with Hall not reacting.
Probably didn't expect the reaction he got, but there was always the possibility.

The possibility of that happening in modern football is so remote as to be negiigible. There is no way in the world Staker could expect something like that, particularly when Staker was doing was all defenders do. If a forward flattened one of our defenders or a midfielder flattened one of our taggers for doing the same or worse this site would be up in arms. There is no defence for Hall's action.
