16 was only the number I used because it is the one the Hawks have.
If they can get an earlier one instead, then obviously that would be the one we'd want.
Boyle IMO is a more than handy tall full forward who simply won't get a game behind Buddy, Roughy and Willo, but could be a star out from under their shadow.

Agreed wayward but talented, 2nd round seems the mark, presumably our senior two indigenous players would be good mentors and may influence the decision.

I was really hoping that Carlton would swap 6 for 12, take OKeefe and maybe give a player, hard to see what they have though spare that we want I suppose.

May help us get Lovett. We are not interested in Lovett for Pick 12, rightly so. Essendon may baulk at Pick 30. We could do something like Lovett + pick 23 for Pick 16 + a 3rd rounder (46?).

We lose ROK + pick 46
We gain Boyle, Lovett and pick 23.

      Gives us 3 picks in top 30 (12, 23, 30)

      Thoughts?[/QUOTE]

Like this one a lot, the draft supposedly runs deep to 20 and beyond, this sort of trading would ease the loss of ROK.

Hold firm Rob-bloods we don't need to trade higher for Lovett, he will be ours at our second pick.

Just posted on HS website that Hawks are really hot for ROK so you can bet your last dollar that the deal will be done for pick 16 and probably Boyle (or Dowler if we are real lucky) with maybe a swap of lower picks.

That would give us Lovett and Boyle plus picks 12 and 16.

Fair reward for ROK leaving and a chance to stock-up with KP players in the last strong draft for a couple of years.

If we are looking at Hawthorn's Key Position Tall in a "Possible" Trade why hasn't the name Mitch Thorpe been brought up yet? I'd rather get our on him than Boyle or even Dowler.

But I agree any of those 3 players and Hawthorn's 1st Round Pick for O'Keefe is what the club should be looking at.

As for Lovett, I don't even know why we are even bothering offering a 2nd Round Pick for him when Essendon have made it clear they don't want him. Offer up our 3rd Round Pick and tell them take it or leave it.

Regardless if we get hold of TWO 1st Round Picks, we must NOT trade any of them. This is a chance to a) draft a KP Player to groom for the future and b) draft a midfielder that ISN'T an in and under type.

Yes losing O'Keefe is bad news but its gives us the chance as a club to rebuild some of our depth in key areas before the need become overwhelming and the draft is a no go zone thanks to Gold Coast and Western Sydney taking all the early picks.

He'd be my preference too. Would take Boyle but have very little interest in Dowler.

Wraps on Thorp are pretty big.

Hawks would only look to trade Thorp as a direct swap for ROK.

                The options for ROK are:

Pick 16 - only if Hawks hold firm, slightly in Hawks favour
                Pick 16 + Boyle - likely win/win for both
Pick 16 + Dowler - unlikely, win for us
Pick 16 + Thorp - very unlikely and we we would be bending over the Hawks and tearing them a new one

I think Thorp has signed a new contract with the Hawks. I reckon the Hawks will give up 16 and Boyle for ROK, as Boyle is the oldest of the three big forwards mentioned and couldn't break into the side that was successful with the Franklin-Roughead-Williams combination. Thorp and Dowler have more years to prove their worth to the Hawks although it'll be hard for them to break through as well.

Given the quality of their young players drafted in the past couple of years, I don't think the Hawks would be hesitant in using their 1st round draft pick in the ROK trade.

Essendon would want to be compensated for trading away Lovett despite wanting him gone, and our 2nd round draft pick is the likely deal. We'd be lucky if they only wanted the 3rd round pick and we'd be stupid if we gave away pick 12 to get Lovett.

Geez, if they lose Green, Melbourne are in trouble -- he's one of their best players!! If he goes the talent will be spread very very thinly at the Demons...

Yes Thorp re-signed earlier this year and hence can't be traded this year.

Boyle and 16 is the most likely scenario.

I was against getting Lovett but now that we are likely to get ourselves another 1st round pick with the ROK trade I think it's smart to go after him. We really do need someone with genuine pace.

If we added Lovett, Boyle and pick 16, and lost ROK and pick 30 at the end of trade week... I couldn't say I'd be happy (because I'll never be happy looking at our team without ROK), but I'd say it'd be a good fair result.

If we did get Boyle, then that would make a BBBH trade for a draft pick even more attractive. Boyle may not be the kind of guy you can build a premiership-winning forward-line around long-term, but having him means we could trade BBBH without looking threadbare up front in 2009... and then use the pick(s) we get for BBBH to select the guy we're hoping to build our forwardline around long-term. And having both Boyle and a class young KPP forward means we could easily delist Playfair at the end of '09 if (as expected) he don't improve. (If we don't pick someone over 188cm with our first pick this year, it's pretty safe to say that we never will under Roos.)

Geez, if Hawthorn can afford $1.5 mil across 3 years deal within their cap, how long are they going to be able to keep the 2008 squad together? A long time, it seems.

Apologies if it's been said before, but getting troubled players who are still extremely talented, is actually trading to Sydney's strength. We're acknowledged as having perhaps the best off-field support network and club culture in the league, plus we're located out of the fishbowl. On-field, that means that we're far more likely to extract value from a trade for Lovett than, say, Collingwood would.

Well it gets real interesting now, with Hawthorn trying to convince ROK to accept less than the $450k that he received this year.

??@Hawthorn has indicated it is willing to listen to offers for forwards Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler.

We should go hard to include either of them in the ROK trade.
