Pelchen to meet Petroro tonight. Sounds like the major hurdle is ROK's salary and how it fits in with the rest of the Hawks.
The PSD is not an option as Melbourne won't take him and he won't make it past Fremantle, West Coast or Port Adelaide so that rules out Victoria.
If I was ROK I would be getting ready to really lay it on thick when he meets the Hawks in the hope they will be convinced to stump up pick 16 and either of Boyle, Thorp or Dowler to statisfy us.
Otherwise he is no mans land and frankly based on how he (and his manager) had approached this so far he can sit in no mans land in the PSD if he won't bend to the Hawks pay structure.
It would be ironic if he ended up at Hawthorn but for less pay!

This time, they have to come to us. And Clarkson and the members will give them a massive kick up the arse if they screw this up.
Usually, the threat of the PSD is a disadvantage to the trading club. Here, whether by accident or design, ROK's declaration that he'll only go to a Vic club, combined with the knowledge that we have the money to pay his salary demands within our cap, makes it an advantage. Melbourne don't have the money (plus he may not want to play for them), then the next 3 PSD teams after that are all non-Victorian. One of them would certainly find the money to meet his asking price. And everyone knows it. So ROK will not let himself drift into the PSD.
Meaning that if the Swans don't like the deal that we're offered, ROK will be running around for us in 2009. Which in turn improves our bargaining position. Now here's hoping we make use of it.Comment

You have to hand it to the Hawks. They seem keen on him but don't want to pay him market value - not not the $600k his manager has puportedly asked for, but not even what the Swans have offered him to stay. And now they don't want to cough up even the no 16 pick for him. The number 16 pick doesn't excite me particularly but it's better than nothing.
At least with the Hawks, if they want him they will have to come up with a trade, and maybe one that is slightly over the average. Most clubs aren't particularly keen to make the stronger teams even stronger by trading one of their guns to them. They're sure not going to do it at bargain basement prices.Comment

I don't blame the Hawks in this one, it's understandable that they would have reservations about his salary given they're going to have to fit Franklin, Roughead et al. under their cap when contract negotiations next come round. We might not get the best possible trade, but they definitely won't screw us over like Sheedy used to do.Comment

exactly - his heart wont be in it as he has made himself very clear as to what he really wants and thats not to be in Sydney. I'm sure this will cause a fair bit of tension within the group - but this may only be the tip of the iceberg if reports are correct that there are a number who want out.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

It appears Roger Hayden may have quit Freo, Melbourne gossip, not so young but this guy has some flair and toughness.
In the fullback stakes I reckon we should look at Jaymie Graham, don't see much of him, maybe for good reason, but a good size, doesn't seem to get a permanent role there, seems to be dour in the Glass/Rutten mould.Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun

I personally believe we need a tough sizeable fullback almost as much as midfield pace.Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun

It was mentioned a few weeks ago in the paper - yeah Ok one shouldnt take that as gospel I know - but I & others have had the same feeling all year too that the loving feeling within the group had diminished somewhat. Anyway it was a small article indicating there were rumblings within the club that there were a number of players who wanted out and are sick of the place. Rok is probably the most high profile of the lot and his manager has made no secret of it. I still maintain that the division between the LG and the rest is widening. We just wait and see I guess.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

When Franklin re signed it was reported he was on 450k so to give ROK 600k would be ludicrous. Most Hawthorn members would prefer to miss ROK and not have salary cap problems in the next 12 months when a lot of the young players who played in a flag want increases.Comment

The only way the Hawthorn members will give get the dirts with Pelchen is if he gives in to ROK ridiculous salary demands. They have built a list by picking kids and they wont want to make a 28 year old outsider the highest payed player on the list.

I don't particularly want him back at the Swans after waht's gone on so hopefully a trade can be arranged."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
