So a half million dollar loss this season and worse to come next season isn't bleeding red ink. And it is largely due to the disasterous decision to gouge the members with price hikes in the middle of a recession and the fall off of membership. Our useless President hasn't caught up with that yet. But you are right lets get Bucks and make it a round million. Haven't you noticed some retrenchments occuring around the club recently? skills coach
I am quite ok with Roos as a coach. He has the players respect because he is very much a players coach..that is he does not make detailed theoretical complicated moves from the heights of the grandstand but stands on the side and shouts at Bevan to pick up his man.He has been loyal (to a fault) to the players who gave the team a premiership. None of them can say they didn't get chances. Even Davis and Hall were given chances.
But OMG our skills are terrible!Watching the Swans you become so slack in your skills expectations. You expect them to screw up and squandour 5or 6 shots a match. When terrible turnover Ted or Reg give the opposition a goal or Bevan infringes right in front you get kind of fatalistic and think"Well thats the Swans ,thats how they play"When Crouch misses a potentially game changing goal from 20 metres you ais skills? Our skills are crap! My point is
SKILLS CAN BE LEARNED! Like Mike Pyke is doing, like every school boy does.Do you think Porplecia from the Crows was born with an accurate kick or leant through practise? How many games would we have won this year if we had guys with his kicking skills.I argue we would be in the Finals contention for sure.So give Roosey a good skills coach.Make the offenders suffer but above all teach them skills and make them practise them.Comment

Hartijon - absolutely!
The Swans slide over the last two or so years is undeniably linked to a decline in disposal (skills) and hardness (masked over by the media always talking about the Swans famed hardness, which has not been anywhere near the standard of 05-06). Anyone needing evidence of how far we've slipped on both measures need only have witnessed the repeated easy carriage out of the centre, (and sweeping the length of the ground untouched a few times), by both North and the Dons in the last two weeks.
Those two key factors do not sit well with a game plan which demands accurate (nay, pinpoint) disposal and wearing opponents down through tackles, stoppages etc. It is a no brainer that we are struggling.
Focus clearly needs to be on skills development. As for hardness/stoppages etc - if the coaching panel feels that style of play is suited to the players in the team now, then stick with it. Evidence is, (however), mounting rapidly that there will need to be a new game plan for the current crop, to best take advantage of the players there now, not who was there 4-5 years ago.
I am very comfortable that Roos is the man to negotiate the club's way through the next few seasons. He will need to be unflappable and self assured in his position (the contract extension delivers that), otherwise chaos will ensue - and make any revival further away than it need be.
For all the gnashing of teeth, tears, sadness or glee on Hall's axing/walk out, at best he had one more year to go. On a cost/benefit basis, with pragmatism the foremost need at the moment, Hally leaving probably hastens the club's revival rather than hurts it. By who's hand he was dispatched will fade into insignificance sooner rather than later. Players come and go, and we miss all of them to varying degrees (or not), but the club endures - and the only ones the coaching panel can afford to care about are those who will carry the club forward. Thanks for service and reverence of club greats is important, but that can fall to the membership and marketing departments to handle (which doesn't actually augur well, and may be worthy of another thread altogether)!Last edited by SwansFan1972; 13 July 2009, 04:34 PM.Comment

The real difference of where we were to where we are is in the midfield and backline.
Once we relied on a very even performance from all of our players, who combined mounted enormous pressure on opposiiton teams. Today it's a few stars...always the same names who drag us to victory, when they're able.
As stated earlier the difference between the best teams and worst teams isn't the top 6 players, it's the bottom 6 and the difference between top and bottom. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

You live in a different world.
Your delusional rants have become outright dishonesty and unworthy of a response."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

Swans? generational change similar to ?02: Roos - AFL.com.au
roos said that white AND HANNEBERRY will play more in 2009. Either its a typo and meant 2010 or Hanneberry will debut this year (maybe this week or next seeing as school starts in 1-2 week)Comment

This thread reminds us of the uncomfortable truth that every club has some absolute ratbags among its supporters. It's not just Collingwood or Richmond or West Coast. Sad but true, and of course we still love them all because they'll be celebrating with us when the good times return, even though they will have had nothing to do with bringing them back.
Now all of you silly people, go back to AnnieH's post (11.50 am 13th July), read it carefully, and just be quiet for a while.Comment

In the end I'd say over 90% of people on this forum would support Sydney all the way, despite the negativity that's surrounding us at the moment. If we can't vent here, where can we go to do it?Comment

A bit OTT mate. Just because people are frustrated with how we're going, it doesn't mean they wont be watching Sydney every week. I know I can't ignore a Sydney game no matter how badly we're playing, I might get upset and start looking for someone to blame but we're all human.

I get as emotional and irrational as anybody watching the Swans lose - my son will attest to that - but I think it's best to cool down and think things through before putting fingers to keyboard. But then, as one of the ratbags has implied above, we wouldn't want all posters to be as "sanctimonious" as me. Every club needs its ratbags. They are a kind of gauge of the team's performances: when they get noisy and abusive, you know all is not well; when they go quiet, things are looking up.Comment

Not disputing any of that DA, but in answer to your question, I think the toilet might be a more appropriate place to unload much of what has been written here. But of course I don't expect that to happen. One of the defining characteristics of ratbags is their absolute compulsion to favour the rest of us with their ill-considered opinions, and nothing I say will change that. So we put up with their emotive nonsense, but please don't ask us to take it seriously.

I certainly wouldn't accuse you of being sanctimonious, as you need to be making some sort of point. You seem to be directing your post towards me, but I don't know where you get alot of your ideas from, including being "noisy and abusive". All I can say in response is - don't worry Chicken Little, the sky isn't falling - and hope it's enough to see you through today. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

He is just telling the truth.Roosy has done a great job for us often with limited talent. He has the ability to get the best out of his players. He is doing the right thing at the moment by trying our reserves players to see who can handle the heat in the kitchen and who can't.
It's not right to kick a bloke when he's down.Look at all the happy times he has given us.
I'd say it would have to be one of the most disappointing games in the last seven years, no question.
"It is disappointing you've got to front up to the Hall of Fame after a performance like that,"
When he could be saying - Exciting time, start of a new era.... I just thought after reading, that if I was one of the group of kids, I would probably take it to heart. No kicking here. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment
