Rather than being like some other clubs who trade players in seemingly just to bolster numbers (Carlton for instance), the Swans are the most successful club at trading in players as we always look to fill a weakness in our side and as Roos has said, they are always recruited with the aim of being in our starting 22.
Impediments to trading in players are
Are you an attractive club to join? coaches, facilities, location, future season success - think after this season we are on all counts
Can you fit them into your Salary Cap? - we didn't use the safe haven of Veterans Outside the List this year so assume we can
Can you get a trade deal done with their current club? Hmmm, if you don't hold any high draft choices or players you want to let go then there is a limit to who you can target
GC Suns are the big stumbling block this year and GWS next year because they hold so many high draft choices and $ are no problem.
So this year it gets down to what we need and can we get the deal done. So what deficiencies do we have in our side, assuming full fitness? Certainly not in the back half where KP and flankers are fully loaded. Rucks are full. Midfield we still need pace away from the stoppages so thats one area. Forward line is a bit of a mash really and very much depends on Bradshaws fitness and whether White, Reid or Johnston can step up. What are your thoughts?
