Can't think I've ever seen him play a game where I thought he was anything but just making up the numbers, and that's at Wretchmond so can't see what he would possiby bring to us.

Sherman however I am keen on as we know he can play to a high level and is a modern style footballer.

Whilst GC with 9 of the frst 15 picks could probably clinch a deal for almost all of the good players looking for a home but I think they won't take too many otherwise it will starve their richly talented list of draftees for opportunities within 1-2 years. They do need at least one strong ruckman like David Hale and a power forward until their kids mature physically. Mark my words however, GC will be a power within three years and will stay a power for a decade.

Now we know why Barlow wasn't in the first raft of delistings-- they believe there is a hope of shopping him.

I really hope that "active in trade week" doesn't mean "auctioning off our future". We could spare one of Currie, Vespa or Johnston for the right deal, but no more. Acknowledging Shannon Grant (where our hand may have been forced b/c he was going to walk anyway), and way back in history Darren Gaspar and Anthony Rocca (where our hand was definitely forced), for all of Sydney's busy-ness in trading players in over the years, it's been over a decade since we've traded away a young player who went on to have a long and successful career at his new club.

I suppose Adam Schneider is an honourable mention, but we had already extracted 98 games from him as a junk ND pick, and even in retrospect the decision to trade him was an appropriate decision which was probably a win/win for both clubs (albeit St Kilda gave us too little). Edit for the pedants: Scott Stevens as well. Has played a fair bit of footy, but depends on your definition of 'successful'. Always thought he was a deeply marginal talent.

          Agree generally.
Of the two above, neither really wanted to be a Swan, and with the advantage of hindsight, I'm quite happy about that. I can't remember what we got for Rocca, but was Williams part of that deal?

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

No. Rocca was traded to Collingwood at the end of 1996 in return for Mark Orchard and Ben Wilson, and Draft Picks 14 (Brett O'Farrell) and 33 (Will Sangster). Mark Orchard would return to Collingwood in 1998 after playing 41 games for us, Wilson played 4 in 1997 and was delisted, Will Sangster played 2 in 1999 and got the same and O'Farrell played 8 in 1998 before getting traded to Hawthorn.

We got Paul Williams in Trade Week 2000 and gave up Draft Pick 8 and 39 to get him, which were on-traded until the Kangaroos got Pick 8 (Daniel Motlop) and Fremantle Pick 39 (Adam McPhee - the first time).

The main (indirect) value we got out of that trade was the pick Hawthorn gave up for O'Farrell, which was then used on one of Bolton, Fosdike or Fitzgerald.

Ryan Fitgerald, yes (pick 4, 1998 ND). That trade also gave us pick 36, which we traded to Essendon for Andrew Bomford's return to Sydney. Essendon drafted Danny Jacobs with it.

Alas they don't trade like that anymore since 1998.

Pick 3 - Nick Fosdike - Pick 3 traded by Mugpies for Orchard and Licuria
                  Pick 4 - Fitzy - Pick 4 traded by Dorks for O'Farrell
Pick 8 - Judey - Traded by Geelong for Jason Mooney.

The best would have to be in 2001 - Nick Daffy traded by Tigers for Stalked Stafford.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Disagree on Sherman. I see him as an outside footballer who doesn't fit the Swans type. I don't see him as strong hard at it footballer. More of a sheep dog really. Inconsistent footballer his whole career. The best I can see him is as a running half back. Has pace and he is good at running players down, but bring on the hard stuff and he goes missing. Not interested at all.

Anthony would be a handy addition to TDL as an accurate forward who only needs 3-4 touches for 3-4 goals. All depends on who we are giving up and where we see our current squads future.
Remember Jonathon Hay. Looked a star at full back for Hawthorn but went off very quickly. Went to North and struggled through a couple of seasons and it was discovered he had depression. I am not adverse to giving players a second go at another club but when you know they have issues you are not doing the smart thing by your players, staff and supporters. Clubs are about winning flags and giving everyone a run for their money and this day and age are not convalescent homes for troubled footballers.

They gave us a late first round draft pick too - which we ontraded to the Stains for the Big Bad One (along with our own first round pick).

That would be a very bad move to get him, regardless of who was being traded.

How is the Schneider trade a win/win? The Saints picked up 2 of our players that look like they will play > 100 games each, Meredith hasn't shown much in his 3 seasons to date and if he continues with his current injury strike rate in 2011 there's a fair chance he'll be delisted

Maybe tough but I just get this feeling about him that he may not make it. He looked promising in his debut season but I wasnt that impressed with his 2010 games. He really needs an injury free season next year to show his wares. I really hope I'm wrong

Regardless of how you look at it we got raped in that trade in the same way that we did to the Hawks
