The one thing everyone agrees on about Vespa is he's high maintenance. I hope he gets used to ducking Rocket's flying spittle.

Well, you know, sometimes it's not just about a positional fit or a skill fit within the club. It's also a personality fit and an attitude fit. Our Club takes pride in making sure everyone ticks all those boxes.

Ignoring Vez specifically, I agree with Hammo in that it must be disheartening for young players to see us trade in players from other clubs and basically give them a free pass in the seniors. Fortunately it worked out pretty well for us last year, it remains to be seen whether it will work in long term

I accept that the player may be at fault, but I think this is also the flip side of us recycling so many players. The likes of Kennedy, McGlynn etc are brought in as 'best 22' players - and these players usually respond because they feel wanted and not under the same level of pressure to prove themselves as AFL players. There seems to be a higher bar set for kids we draft and Vesz's comment that he never felt comfortable in the seniors is pretty concerning. I am sure the coaches have their reasons, just hope the same mistake isn't made with Johnston!
I think there's something to this - in a season where we turned around so many in our best 22, Vesz would surely have thought he'd done enough to be near the front of the queue. I thought his one senior gane this year was pretty good. Anyway, he's dead to me now...

No traded player is given a free pass if your good enough you will make the senior side, just ask - jetta, rohan, tdl, and reid to a lesser degree.

As someone said he looks to be a high maintenance bloke, but saying that sometimes five into four just will NOT go. The mix has to be right. And woe for Patty and for some of us, the mix was not right. And if the dogs really want him, well and good, and it looks like our mob want Itzy, so all round its win win. they each play very different positions. We get what we want, they get what they want, and the boys get what they want too (I am assuming Itzy is THRILLED to be coming to the Swans?)

Emmas somewhat affectionate reading of Patty is pretty spot on. Baz can cuddle him a bit.

Cheese should be moved on, but I'm kind of torn on MOD. I like him. Maybe keep him for another year, give him one last crack - if he doesn't make it next year, he'll need to be delisted or traded. That said, if someone wants him (or Cheese) this trade week, they should both be given the chance to try their hand elsewhere.

I understand what Vez means about being comfortable. Sometimes the culture of the Club is not your culture. I remember playing country football with Redneck farmers, fencing contractors and Army cadets when my hair was way too long. I felt uncomfortable too but was trapped with no where else to play. I had to double earn my spot every week.Lucky for Vez,there is a way out now and wish him well at the Dogs and hope the parting is amicable. I don't know about his personality at the Club but as a player he did as good as he could when given the chance and watching Playfair's efforts in the 1sts must have come close to breaking his spirit and maybe it did given his lack lustre efforts late in the season.

They'll be delisted IMO, we'd get bugger all trying to trade for them

I hope like blazes they hang on to MOD. He has hung in there with us, he really has worked, and sometimes you have to have "the other ones" at a club.....I'd like to keep him but would never boo him if he wanted to wander back to a Melbourne club, or wherever.

Cheese, well, umm, lovely bloke but I have NO idea who what where when he is in footy terms. none what so ever.....

Looking in from the outside I get this impression too. Players are traded in with a guarantee to be in the 22, Kennedy, Mummy and McGlynn for example and looking at the Swans top 10 in the best and fairest it was with justification in their cases. However it must be with a sinking heart for those who have similar skills but have not yet been given a decent tryout in the firsts. Just as Currie had to get used to the trade ins last year, with Everitt coming in there is certainly no place for Ed and Campbell Heath, and perhaps even Sam Reid, and way down the order Chris McKaigh must be wondering about their chances of a game next year and beyond, because the traded in ones are definitely there to stay.

At the end of next year a few more of the 'olds' might retire and free up a couple of spaces but for those labouring away in the less than ideal ressies comp. for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th years it must be quite demoralising. In TDL, no place for Ves. In Jetta, no spot for O'Dwyer, all about the same ages but TDL and Jetta had had the advantage of playing in a better reserves comp. and also must have been seen as having more to offer the Swans than those already on the list. I suppose that is the way it all works, some do get the breaks and some don't but I feel for those guys who don't. Good luck to Ves and also to Ed, Currie, and OD either still on the list next year or elsewhere.

                                saw this in HeraldSun today:

"This is bollocks about Setanta O'Hailpin, I can tell you one hundred percent, Setanta is in Sydney right now in talks with the Sydney Swans, showing him the club. Swans will get Setanta who still has a year to go on his contract, and the most likely outcome will be a straight swap for disgruntled small forward Paul Bevan who wants out. Dogs don't have a shot, he's off to Sydney."

Does anyone know if this is true?
