That's quite irrelevant Bas, Andrew Walker was a former number 2 pick doesn't mean he's worth a top 5 pick now.

The pitch at Wallace and Liberatore by Swans and Port were just standard moves agreed by all clubs to ensure Bulldogs used their first picks to get them. Two guns for picks 22 and 40 - nce work. We of course will have to use our first pick next year to get Tom Mitchell.

Sherman wants to go to Bulldogs but now their first pick is only 58 they will have to be giving a fairly good player or two to Brisbane to land him so we are still in the hunt.

Ves is worth far more than other clubs are probably likely to want to give for him and as he is still contracted for 2011 we may still keep him.

Wonder if we are in the hunt for someone out of left field not yet mentioned?

What would your guess he is worth now?

Based on the way players have been valued in recent trade periods, mid/high 20s?

Probably about a third round pick, which is why we should keep him as he's worth more to us.

Draft picks are just like buying new cars, they lose value right after you use them/drive them out of the showroom. Just the possibility of drafting a future star adds a premium to their worth on the trade table.

Bulldogs first draft pick is about 54 now.

#57, but only if they don't use the Harbrow compo pick. (about #26?)

Someone emailed Live Radio and asked about Jesse going to Melbourne?

Plough said would be good fit, but Jesse does about 5 good things a game at the moment and needs to do about 12 good things. Has lots of upside.

So the radio heads have not heard of this but I'm not surprised if Jesse ends up elsewhere if the price is right.

I agree the market seems to work that way, but unfortunately most "stars" don't emerge until they've been driven in for a few years. The Judds and Selwoods of this world are exceptions. And curiously, their worth increased over their draft pick position within a couple of months of the start of their first season playing. Yet the reason they "fell" (if falling down to pick 3 counts for Judd) was because of queries over their long-term viability due to injuries suffered as juniors, which was still a big unknown at the point their value rocketed.

The "potential superstar" element of a pick's worth is impossible to value but probably over-rated. What you are really valuing is the increased chance of getting a superstar with a top pick vs your chance with a middling to low pick. I think this facet is probably worth a fair bit in the first few picks of a draft but drops away quickly after those first few.
