I'm assuming we will be keeping our first 2 picks. Don't like our chances of getting Sherman, and hopefully whatever Bevan and/or Currie fetches will be good enough to on-trade.Comment

If we swap Vez for a player (Everitt) and lose both Bevan and Currie, we're 4 players down on our senior list from last year (Thornton and Kirk already gone). Barlow seems likely to be found a new home (or not) and MOD is probably marginal given he played next to no senior footy last year. So even if we elevate Pyke, that looks like 4-5 players need to be added to the senior list. Of course, there may be another McGlynn/Shaw type trade out there that we have no inkling of but it's too soon to say we won't be using our 3rd round pick.Comment

Also assuming that Bevan/Currie will yield us picks before our current 3rd rounder. But really the point I'm trying to make was that the 3rd rounder wouldn't hurt as much as our 2nd rounder (obviously!)Comment

This is article is interesting regarding key dates Key draft and trade dates
"Thursday October 7, 2pm ? Gold Coast FC may include on its Primary List up to one listed player from each club (or more than one if the other club agrees) provided the player is uncontracted for the 2011 season"
So essentially they could take anyone from the Swans who is out of contract?Last edited by Quiet_Observer; 6 October 2010, 02:38 AM.Comment

4 years @ $400k p.a. for Sherman?I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I have photographic evidence! Had my pic taken with him. I remember thinking he seemed much more energetic/focused (i.e. not as drunk) as the other players, so maybe he wasn't feeling celebratory and already thinking he was looking for a path elsewhere. Or maybe he's just a teetotaler, I dunno.Comment

I think it's bull@@@@ aswell, but I dont think it would be the end of the world either to lose malceski, his disposal quite often this year was terrible. We can easily cover him with shaw, mattner, tiger and everitt if the deal gets done.Comment

I'll be a little sad to see Vez go but the idea he hasn't been given a fair go is way off the mark. Last year he was clearly in Roos' plans for round 1, being one of the few youngsters retained in the senior team in the late practice matches, when most of the others made way for more experienced players. He then injured his finger on the eve of the season, and when he returned, he appeared to be some way off match fit. Despite this, he got a handful of senior games even though his endurance was still questionable.
This season, there has been nothing in his reserve game form to indicate he was being unfairly kept out of the team. He has never been able to run out a game at reserves level this year, and to my eye looked restricted by more than just inadequate endurance. (Recent reports of a groin injury explain this, if the injury persisted into the season.)
I think he might still have a lot to offer a team but there is a decent size question mark over whether he will ever be able to develop a tank big enough to provide more than the odd cameo. Only time will provide the answer to that. And if Melbourne clubs have got into his ear and persuaded him things will be rosy if only he is to "go back home", the club is probably best off giving him his wish and cashing in while he still has some trade value.
Still, makes it even more crushing we didn't call out Cyril's name...
Everitt has some upside I'm sure - my preference would be for Hill but that doesn't appear to be an option. Probably a win/win for both parties I expect.Comment
