And one the club almost certainly had no intention of ever using. And even if they were still picking then, they would have another pick shortly afterwards which would probably get exactly the same player they might otherwise have chosen with pick 90 or whatever the pick was.Comment

I think the concern with the Everitt trade is that we've traded one player with attitude issues for another one with similar problems. If you search Everitt on the Bulldogs forum on another website, he has polarised their fans in the same way that Vez has here.
The line that "we'll fix him up here in Sydney" is always trotted out whenever we recruit someone with question marks, but the bloods culture wasn't able to solve Patty's problems (or those of Davis, Schneider and Phillips).
I guess time will tell, and hopefully this ends up a win-win trade for both players and clubs concerned but I wouldn't be suprised if Spida Jnr ends up a whipping boy on these boardsComment

Whatever issues exist with Everitt, they appear to be very different ones, relating more to intensity and consistency than athleticism. Were / are these due to a lack of confidence in himself, a lack of confidence by Eade in him, a lack of understanding of the required intensity or is he just not good enough? Guess we'll find out over the next year or two.Comment

That is presuming that the problem is "attitude issues". None of us really has any idea what, if any, attitude issues Veszpremi had or has. What we have been able to observe is that, during his time at the Swans, he was never in good enough physical shape to have more than a marginal impact on games (at senior level). In year one that was tolerated more than in year three. It doesn't really matter whether his physical condition was due to the effect of injuries or not working hard enough or inherent physical limitations. A change of club may or may not help him get himself into better physical condition and hence achieve his undoubted potential.

I am far from convinced Vez' "issues" are between the ears. His physical condition seems to be far more obviously the problem - which may have very little to do with what goes on between the ears.Comment

Based on past recruiting, if we picked him up we obviously intend to play him in the firsts (providing he is fit). Just look what that policy did for the confidence of our recruits of 2009 and earlier.
I still remember how good Everitt was in his first year as an 18yo at the the Dogs, before he had to worry about his place in the side.
Not happy to lose an untried Ves but cnfident we have targeted a valuable firsts player in Everitt.Comment

If its because of injuries, this certainly wasn't made public and would make the reason to trade him even more bafflingComment

Simon Phillips was just picked up by Port Adelaide, he played 1-2 senior games from the rookie list in 2007 (?) it has also been suggested that he was a loose cannon while at the Swans and was cut for reasons other than his on field performancesComment

When I was up in Sydney for a game..the taxi driver told me Schneider was a party animal..and that is in Sydney where people don't know the footy team like the do in Melbourne. I thought that was a bit of an indicator."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment
