I would usually agree with this -but where exactly were the incredibly experienced hawk defenders. Most of them were Sitting in the stands. In any case it is the midfield which was so disappointing and the absence of leaders -most particularly our least reliable set shot kicker who missed from 10m at a time we desperately needed to kick a goal.

Not so much in this game, just in general. I appreciate blooding the young kids but both Sam and Everitt get EASILY bumped off the ball when it comes in high. Poor Parks got pushed out of contests easily as well. Lewis just made him look like a school kid a few times at the bounce. Not having a go at Parks at all, just highlighting we can't expect too much from the young ones. We need to play them though, that's the catch 22.

Goodesey has I think (close to it anyway) the 3rd/4th worst kicking percentage in the top 100 goal kickers so far this year. He's kicking around 40%. Ouch.

Our major major problems today were :
1. We have no one it seems that knows how to play in the forward line and were too easily outbodied by the hawthorn backs . Our only tactic seemed to be to try to bomb it over the backs to open space which just didnt work as we dont have any one smart enough to lead either back to space or to position themselves to outmark their component.
2. Our midfielders were shocking in winning the contest after half time. Mumford must have won 80% of the ruck but the tap went straight to a hawthorn midfielder. Why are our guys so bad at reading their own ruckmen. Surely they must practice where they are going to tap it to in a ruck contest.

Most of hawthorns goals in the first half came from fast rebound breaks which they can do well because they have someone like buddy running back onto it. We dont have anyone who can effectively do that.

Then when they piled on the goals in the third quarter they nearly all came from centre clearances in many instances where we won the tap but they won the ball . It shouldnt need Goodes to go in to rectify this. McVeigh, Kennedy , Bolton etc should hang their heads in shame at the effort after half time. They were smashed out of the centre. No point blaming Grundy when that happens. The backline will always struggle when the ball is coming in that easily.

We are as everyone has said already a bottom eight side and will stay that way unless the midfield is prepared to match and beat their opponents for four quarters and we develop a forward line that can score goals.

I'm pretty sure when Jesse played earlier in the year he was getting the #1/#2 defender (as Goodesy was spending more time in the forward line), now Sam and Andrejs would be getting those guys.

Reid was starting to attract the best defenders in some games already, even with Jesse in the side. Darren Glass in the WC game comes to mind, and Essendon moved Fletcher onto Reid when he started taking some contested grabs.

I'm curious about the ruck issues previously raised by Scott and Stellation. I understand that you may have a "third man in" who can come over the ruck and hit the ball clear, but isn't the ruck set-up restricted to two? And why didn't the umps take action yesterday? Is this a Hawthorn tactic to fudge the rules? Does anyone know what is going on?

(ORB Mr & Mrs & Primmy are the exception's of course- we think the world of our Primms & ORB's) I may take up citizenship in the Brewongle next year (I also believe that Al puts on drinks and canapes as well ") like a box of jatz he is the great entertainer!

Exactly why I chose to go early. I switched on the radio and it was the 22 minute mark of final qtr when we came down Anzac Parade heading for the tunnel. There was no vehicle traffic but masses of people who had also given up and left.

I too was not interested in the post game contempation whilst sitting in a non moving traffic jam.

Home to Central Coast by about 5:50pm and quick dinner and Merlin at 6:30pm.

Did I tell you I picked 8 winners this weekiend?

I left early in the 4th quarter and so glad I did - I was on the Brighton side of the airport tunnel when the full time siren went - I was glad that I arrived early in the carpark so I sat in the sun and read the papers for an hour or so and noticed the hoards of people turning up and I then realised that they didnt know that there was no reserves game on and that the gates weren't opening until 12.30. And to behonest the game for the NRL didnt make any difference - as there was hardly anyone there. in the end though it was a @@@@@ of a day.

HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson confiscated his players' mobile phones when they arrived in Sydney on Saturday as part of the team's preparation to break an eight-year drought at the SCG.

Without facebook or twitter to distract them, the Hawks players had to focus on preparing for the game!!

well it didnt feel as low as the Melbourne loss in 2010 but it was up there.................very strange how last year we turned things around and looked very solid the rest of the season !
