My only solace is remembering how we bounced back after our insipid performance against Melbourne last year.. They just didn't look like they wanted to be out there..
Well that whole thing was a complete fiasco. After a huge weekend committment-wise, where my wife and I had planned everything to the minute, I got to the precinct in the car 20 mins prior to kick off to find the parking areas all full and me with nowhere to go. I had to get away as early as I could to travel interstate for work (where I am now) and had a 6yo child with me. Without options for parking close to the ground and after doing a couple of laps we had to go home. Why oh why was there two games scheduled simultaneously??? I know how the scheduling works so I have to point the finger squarely at the SCG Trust. They could have told Channel 9 that they couldn't play the Roosters game today. On top of that there was track work on the Illawarra line so all those folks had to drive anyway.
In any event, the match highlights from the Swans' perspective were few:-
- Malceski
- Hanners
Lowlights:-
- Everything else
Goodes was all over the place but he can't be regarded as an elite player unless he kicks more goals when we need him to. He is woefully inaccurate atm.
I haven't been jumping on the TDL hysteria but our forward line was so impotent today that I think he has to play. He's a genuine goal kicker. Similarly we need to play Seaby so that either he or Mummy can play forward at times and give us a target.
That's as poor a game as I've seen from Reg in ages. I know Franklin can play a bit but that performance was awful. Can anyone tell me what happened to McVeigh and Kennedy after quarter time?
I'm ok with us losing if we've put in and been outplayed on the day but it was only the latter today from some of them IMO.
Another noticeable feature : we put the ball into the 50 inaccurately , whereas Hawthorn regularly kicked it "flat" , making it easier for their forward line to mark and harder for our defence to spoil.
We don't just bomb it long in hope, but the kicks are sky high. Not like we have great marking options at the best of times but those up-in-the-air balls are ridiculous.
- our team on the other hand, and for the most part today, were 5 metres behind opponents, we had fumbles and stumbles and tried to play that god awful chip passing and hand ball bingo style - IT WAS CRAP AND IT DOESNT WORK!
I havent been this mad in ages. Not good enough Swans - get your hands off your hips, lift you heads, support your players instead of pointing at them, and lift your bloody game! end of rant
Too many players looked dispirited and disinterested. I too was as mad as hell at the lack of fight and effort. It's not dishonourable to lose if you lose well, but that was one of the worst examples of dispassion I've seen from the Swans in a long time.

We were fortunate enough (arguably!) to have got parking in the EQ car park after getting stuck in traffic and arriving about 30-40 minutes before the game. We were on one of the upper levels, and it seriously took us 50 minutes to move about 10 metres from our "cleverly selected" parking spot to the ramp to start going down. That certainly allowed for some spirited analysis of the game!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

This is very true, they have the talent to do it but I always feel they are kicking from about 10 metres too far away, or always kicking to the danger spot instead of hitting up a man on the lead. I honestly think a chunk of White's struggles in the seniors have come from his strength being as a leading forward but usually if a lead is honoured he would not get the chance to run onto it and have to stop and prop or slow down so his man can catchup with him.

Exactly why I chose to go early. I switched on the radio and it was the 22 minute mark of final qtr when we came down Anzac Parade heading for the tunnel. There was no vehicle traffic but masses of people who had also given up and left.
I too was not interested in the post game contempation whilst sitting in a non moving traffic jam.
Home to Central Coast by about 5:50pm and quick dinner and Merlin at 6:30pm.
Did I tell you I picked 8 winners this weekiend?
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.
we also arrived 40 mins before game to find all parking closed so we parked on the grass on ANZAC. After leaving the game I thought great not only did we lose I would have a huge parking fine waiting for us but the only good news of the day - no parking ticket turned onto Anzac down South Dowling and home, it was the fastest we had ever gotten away from the ground.
Graet to see Malceski back, I couldnt understand why LRT wasnt thrown on Buddy, Heath gave him too much room from the opening bounce. Everitt at Full Forward ...Why?? Jesse gave us as much and had a pressence, TDL is a specialist FWD but cant get a game.
Time to get LRT back in defence and bring in a couple of fwd's even play Seaby at FF, Everitt has to go.
Why did it take SOOOOOO long to get to the game, what on earth were the Swans Management doing with the ques and ques of people trying to get in!!!! Was there anyone redirecting or helping? No. Not talking 20 or 30, I am talking hundreds and hundreds lined up outside trying to get inside, and this was at 1pm!!!
Rarely have I left a game before the end, once out at ANZ against Collingwood I think, in some 15 years but I did. It was boring and insipid. Some of the effort from seniors left a lot to be desired. Why wasn't LRT down back where he could have used his body against Buddy. That is where he has played most of his footy!!!! Reg just isn't in the same physical league as Buddy and nothing is going to change that. He needed help and he wasn't getting it.
Joey's handball direct to Hawthorne!!!! at distance with no swan in sight?
The kids have a long way to go in terms of unity. They needed great leadership and got Rhyce.......and others, won't blame it all on Rhyce, but what tha!!!!
Andreys could be ok one day, but not quite now. Panic handballing to train crashes......
From up high it looked at times like a lot of chooks after a single grain. At one time nearly every single swan was swarming around the pill at the Paddington end, barely a hawthorn player anywhere near them, it was all red, and it looked like a bunch of kids at Auskick. Nowhere for the ball to go. Nowhere to run, they were blocking themselves.
As for the tackling.......(shakes head in dispirited wonder)........................
Again I ask. Where was the leadership.
PS: I do NOT include NicMal in any of my rantings. His game was amazing considering how he got to it. Bless Mal....hugs.

Exactly. Aiming for the leading forward's chest when kicking to him is a far more sensible option.

I reckon this is part of the problem with rok on the ball. he gets it but kind of just kicks it up high in the air forwards. when he played as a hff he would mark it and then pinpoint the ball into the 50. its very rare to see him now either mark it or pinpoint the ball. I still think he gives his absolute all (and actually having watched the replay I'm not sure there were too many passengers) but his skills are not being best utilised in the position he is playing - and he is not the only player in the team in this category.
i think one of our very real problems is that we are not getting any run fom behind the ball with any of the hbf - neither keneally, shaw, mattner, mal are breaking lines - instead far too often we are playing really stagnant football with grundy kicking wide to the wing to a contest. the endless stoppage game on the wings with high contested ball is putting our forwards under pressure because it is very very rare to see a swan streaming through the middle with the ball.
on top of many other valid concerns .......... I have noticed a pattern of us kicking over the top to no one out of the pack and then there is the quick break from the opposition. ROK does it alot and we had 3 goals against us from his kicks to the gap between FF and the pack........The Hawks countered on a fast break and destroyed us
Geelong, Carlton and Hawks had the backs to destroy this style of footy
secondly when teams move their small forward to FF we get creamed !
Smithy vs Betts - Betts 3 goals
same again on Sunday we got hammered when they move to a small FF
When we do put a small forward to FF it actually works for us also......... but we are the last to do it against the better teams.........Shaw actually went well when on the lead from the FF region but it was all to late !
