Your defence of Jesse is admirable Stell and I hope you get to rub all our noses in it if Jesse starts to play the football the Swans want from him.

That might be his role already. Bit of cajun powder in the undies pre-game.In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

I think Jesse has a lot of potential, and we saw that in his first outing as the sole forward against Carlton.
It just hasn't been there since.Comment

Have you ever played much footy as a ruckman? It's relatively tiring, particuarly giving up an inch or two, and I thought physically did seem to take its toll on him- I do think that would impact on your ability to play other positions.
Lewis did very well in both of those games, and I think has generally done quite well all year in the role. From memory he didn't kick all those goals as a traditional lead/mark kind of forward, more making great use of reading the flight of the ball- you'd expect that of someone who has played as many games as he has as a defender.Comment

Of all the excuses given for his poor showing this year the one that confounded me was being 'forced' to play the second ruckman role, as if the switch midgame from forward to ruck could have such a harmful effect that it made him the ineffective player that we've become accustomed to. Well LRT kicked three goals on the weekend to go with his three against brisbane in this exact same role. It only highlights the speciousness of this argument and those defenders are really grasping at straws
there may be hope for him yet but it sure ain't as a tall forward. Perhaps time for a Leo Barry type transition from frustrating forward to effective Backman
and theres even another example of a player who did the same after leaving our club to play in their home state.Comment

Gerard Healy echoing the RWO view on Jesse:
White.. is now at a very dangerous point in his career where if he doesn't come to grips with the fundamental basics and eradicates the sloppy mistakes still too prevalent he will find himself out of a job. Or, at least, on the market.
He could be the forward the Swans are currently looking for and with his ability to go into the ruck he should look at Leigh Brown to see what is possible. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

I just looked at last years final v Carlton & in that game he proved he had the ability & he took responsibility. He has the talent it is just so frustrating that he is not exhibiting it. I think he is constantly second guessing himself & as Leigh Matthews says the first option is generally the best & those who hesitate etc.Comment

Going a bit far IMO. His 3 goals were really important and he performed his role well, but Goodes, Jude or even Rohan's burst in the last quarter as the sub were more crucial for the win IMO.
I'm losing faith in him quite quickly after being a believer for a long time. He's not being helped by Sam Reid's rapid maturity and rise but Jesse's body strength in the marking contest just isn't good enough for someone so big and seemingly strong. Getting pushed under the ball too easily this year.
Hope he proves me wrong like everyone else, but I can't see it happening.Comment

Roosy is a pretty fair judge of footy players. I think Jesse has a year or maybe even 2 left on his conttract and it may be that he is having second year blues, I think they'll hang onto him, and hope for an improvement or a change to the sub rule next yearYou can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

The club want to play both of them forward as key position marking forwards which our structure is crying out for, but Jesse's lack of form and mental application has seen the club not be able to do so at present.
Jesse has the talent and physical presence to play senior football, no doubt. It's whether he can apply himself to do the things he needs to do for a full game (attack the football, repeat efforts, move constantly) along with removing the brian fade free kicks that will see him make it or not.
That has nothing to do with whether Sam Reid continues his improvement or not.
At this stage at what we have seen a Taylor Walker/Sam Reid combo would be a more likely to make it.
DST"Looking forward to a rebuilt, new, fast and exciting Swans model in 2010"

As he is contracted for next year.....ah well. I guess the coaches (the real ones I mean) have the same attitude most of us have. We can SEE what COULD be, its just not translating.......but we still live in hope, but the sidewalk coaches (that's us) have given up.....pretty much....well I have anyway, and now I am living with the hope that Jesse sticks it right up us and goes on to a faabulous career.....If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Interesting that the article mentioned that he gave Goodes a 'bath' in marking drills. Wouldnt this mean that Jesse may be more suited to a role down back? Cant we give him an extended run at CHB in the magoos to see if that is where he is, then maybe put someone like Grundy as a marking forward? Obviously, this should only occur at such a stage that White's ability as a back means we really arent losing anything from that area if Grundy goes forward, but isnt it worth looking at? I can see him as a Glen Jakovitch type, perhaps.Comment
