I agree, just no guarantees, we have blown two 8 point games in the last four weeks, really not good for the psych in close games and let's not forget what lowly Richmond did to us last year either.
We definitely should have beaten Freo as they couldn't even field anything like their top side. Dan was great, young Lukie was good & Jack's back. Kanga was fantastic tonight as was Goodes. There were a few that need to worry that come finals they may not be there and Tadhg is one, he was pretty ordinary again tonight for about the fifth in a row. Benny tried hard but couldn't seem to get a handle on it tonight the ball seemed to evade him but he still threw himself into all the packs and didn't give up. Ryno was a bit down, LRT the same and using Mal as sub didn't work. Bird was good in the second half not much in the first. Sammy is a star! Bolts was a bit down tonight as well but still kept trying. All in all no-one could blame the players for their effort, I have a couple of problems with some of the match ups especially in the last quarter when Hurley tore us to pieces. I also have problems with the forward coach because our goal kicking was just terrible.

No four points, but having a look a bit deeper and the glass is half full.

For those who are critical of the team I love the passion you have, but in a year when we are not going to threaten the flag a loss of this type has to be a great learning experience for the younger players in the group.

Outside of Goodes (I thought the positives in Goodes game outweighed the negatives by a lot) I thought a lot of our younger players were the shining lights rather than relying on the experienced players in the group, hope we make finals for a bit of experience and bring on next year.

The real problem with that was the really really dumb kick by Jude Bolton. He marks in the centre square, there were free players everywhere on either win and he kicks a twenty five metre pass to a leading Mumford where any spoil would open us up the other way. It was the dumbest kick with just three minutes to go and up by two goals. Jetta cleaned it up for him and then missed the hand pass. But a senior player like Jude should have just been hitting shaw or hanners in space either side in space.

Reidy kicked 3 out of 3. Much better than I've seen before so someone must be helping him........

Smooch was fantastic tonight. Agree with liz, we needed a bit more from our experienced mids. Looked like dons learnt their lessons from round 1 and closed out rok and b1.
Was a little disappointed in bird's game tonight also. Not sure i can bring myself to watch the replay. Thoughts?

Damn, I should have gone for the Kylie and Jason option.

I was really disappointed with ROK tonight. Just bombs away without looking. The game did seem to turn after Lewis' wayward handpass but missed goals are goals missed.

I don't think anyone mentioned Grundy's sloppy kick out next to the goals which resulted in a turnover and goal.

OOOHH geez im bloody devastated, havent felt so bad since the 06 GF (although that cant be compared).....goodsey was awesome however he really should of kicked the goal, easy for me to say I guess. Finals spot on the line next week, lose that and it is definately curtains.

Btw if Aj does not get a rising star nomination this season after the games he has played as a first year defender then the system is just a high draft pick benefit system.

I could not agree more. We lost the game then and there. We had control and only had to keep possession up around the forward line and the clock would have beaten Essendon. Just a dumb kick.

Just back from Etihad and a quick canter through the thread.
Disappointed but not devastated. Kicking, both field and goal, was the weak point. I thought the umpires did OK; there will always be odd decisions but at least they seemed to be even-handed about it.
And the Bombers had many more uncontested marks because we (despite the image we have) do not play man-on-man a lot of the time. All too often they were spread, we were clumped.
I agree that for the average watcher it would have been a very exciting game, great skills and horrid clangers by both teams, lots of pressure, biggish crowd of 38,000 plus.
My picks were Goodes (I agree that his positives outweigh the negatives, though I find that 6 point donation hard to swallow), Hannebery, Reid, Smith, Johnson, Mummy. I wish Mal had replaced Tadhg rather than TDL.
No, we're not there yet, but the future looks promising.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Just back from the game as well. I am so proud of my daughter who dressed up in red and white and was very vocal as we sat in the middle of the bomber supporters. Geez I hate bomber supporters!
I also now have to declare my man-love for Hanners. He has got captain written all over him. In addition it really is time to replace Tadgh. He has been a great servant but is now a passenger.
I was impressed by the young guys but have to say that Bird did look very slow and just can't Chase. In addition, Jetta showed some great glimpses but I think he runs out of condition very quickly and was also brushed off pretty easily a few times.

Well the night got off too a good start when the cheer squad couldn't get the banner up due to a broken pole. Must say its exciting when you see the younger ones go at it, Wow Hanners what a Champ..................I've also been a big supporter of Tadhg over the years but IT'S TIME sorry Tadhg. I'm not going to mention the game but what I'm proud to say is the amount of Swans support tonight was Bloody fantastic. the amount of old South supporters round the place is a credit to the Melbourne/Sydney Swans.
