Is there anyone more annoying to deal with in trade week than Pelchen? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/af...-1226167495031

The only way we could work this out is if we given Tommy a front loaded LT contract and push him through the Pre-season draft, but in reality Melbourne will almost certainly nab him. I don't think the trade will happen.

Considering this section of the forum is Swans chat only, I think this thread had more to do with the happenings and whisper prior to the begining of trade week and the other thread was a 'whats happening in trade week' thread.

I'm not sure of the pre-season draft order but I would have thought other players might be of greater interest to Melbourne and other Clubs than a rookie .

Since when was the last player drafted in the pre-season draft that didn't get to a Club that he hadn't already negotiated to go to? I checked the last 6 years and couldn't find one. That included the likes of Bradshaw and Bolton (2003) to us and Nick Stevens to Carlton and Luke ball in national draft.

He's out of contract so I imagine if the Swans offered pick 35 then the Saints wouldn't knock it back. However pick 43 would be better.

Maybe we could put a 'Nick Daffy deal' on the table - St Kilda might be forced to consider if they can't offload Gram elsewhere.

Gram (we take him and his 2-year contract off St Kilda's hands) + Walsh for picks 35 & 43. Take it or leave it - but it sounds as though they desperately need to trade Gram to provide some salary cap relief.

I wonder where Mrs Daffy is these days?

You'd think the knuckleheads would have learnt after losing Ball for nothing.

Makes good sense to me Steve regarding your proposition. More than adequate.

I'd give Tommy a five year contract, front loaded.

Makes you wonder about the 10 year deal Lions gave Alistair Lynch. That worked out well.

What your overlooking though is that Melbourne and Richmond were reported to be after him in that article when the Swans were first mentioned as going after Tommy. Also because he is a rookie, a bloody talented one at that, lots of clubs would take him, because there is not real need to respect his 'wishes' AND he is a KPF.

I reckon the, Armstrong +pick 35 for LJ, deal, will only go through if St Kilda release Walsh.
If not, then we have no deal and will keep LJ, and then try to pick up either Armstrong or Walsh in the pre season draft.
                    Thats my hope anyway.

To be fair to the Saints, they brought him over from Ireland and have invested two years teaching him the game. If I were them I'd be doing all I could to make him stay, including making it hard for him to leave.

                        All depends on

                        a) whether he really wants out of the Saints and doesn't mind overly where he goes (despite indicating Sydney as a preference)
                        b) he kinda fancies coming to Sydney but won't throw himself into the draft
                        c) what kind of money Sydney and other clubs are prepared to offer him and whether the Saints can come close to matching it given their reported salary cap issues

If they are convinced they will lose him I suspect they will accept a reasonable offer at the last moment. It isn't quite the same as the Luke Ball situation where they were making a stand over what they thought as another club being unreasonable. But I suspect they will do all they can to persuade him to stay in the meantime.

I didn't know that much about him so after seeing you write he was KPF I went to the 2011 Football Bible and very impressive. At 195 cm's he's only 2 cm's shorter than Jesse. 5 cms taller than Taigh.

OK scrap the pre-season rubbish and move heaven and earth to get him !!!!!!!!!!!! I'd give them both second round picks !!!

Longmire said he was after a forward so the Johnston trade is starting to make a lot more sense.

Whatever the intent was, the two threads are certainly covering the same territory. Consider them as one.
