Wasn't sure were to post this comment, and I didnt want to start a new thread, so I thought I'd post it here.

Did anyone see the incident between Malceski and Selwwod on the weekend? According to talkback(SEN), Geelong supporters are ringing in adament that it was nothing but a head clash, Swans supporters are ringing up adamanet that they saw Selwood Strike Malceski! Its was actually quite funny to listen to.

    Anybody here see/knowing anything?

Puts him in the cranky old footballers list with Judd.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

When that happens, we're obliged to fall back on the old lockdown style that hasn't worked against top teams since 2006. You have to add to that the fact that neither Goodes or Parker have been able to recapture their pre-injury form.

If Reid returns, out goes Walsh who has promise but a lot to learn. If Smith returns, Armstrong should be pushed up into the midfield where he could provide another outside run option - that would relegate Parker. (Hannebery had a poor game, but he's entitled to at least one).

If Grundy is suspended, LRT is the only option to go back, which opens a forward line vacancy for Morton.

Morton provides an x factor in a forward line which is otherwise way too predictable.
I watched the ressies game of Sat. online and was really disappointed in Morton's game. I was looking forward to seeing a full game from him but he hardly seemed to get near the ball. Such a shame that Spangher is not match fit, he played with enthusiasm, verve, actually laying tackles, effectively too for the most part.

I know TDL is not at the top of anyone's list for a finals game in the seniors but he played a great 15 minute cameo in the last quarter - leading, marking, kicking goals, crumbing. This happened when he was put in the goal square and played in the arc around it. That is his position. When playing upfield he is pretty ordinary, even in the ressies. Another reason for his great play was that the ball coming in was targetting leading players rather than being bombed in long to a contest. To me it is so sad that his skills and strengths don't quite fit into the way the game is being played at the moment at the highest level for there is something almost exquisite about the way he plays when given the opportunity. Like Buddy - but at the other end of the spectrum!!!!!! (Apologies for being a bit off topic.)

I doubt that Malceski will be dropped for Armstrong as Longmire has been generally conservative with changes and has gone with experience over experimentation. It would surprise me if it he would drop an experienced finals player for one without finals experience. I do agree that Armstrong was one of our better players on Saturday, and perhaps there is a way to fit him in, but Malceski has played reasonably well since returning to the seniors and had a good game against Hawthorn. If Grundy gets suspended, it might make the selection decision easier.

Jetta to my eyes at the ground when I noticed him, seemed too far sucked up the ground to get ahead of the play. Whether that's defensive tactics, injury or tiredness who knows. Not us.

                      INS: Smith, Reid and Morton

LRT to shift down back to compensate for Grundy, Morton to get a full game and Jetta to sub.

                      Assuming Grundy suspended.

LRT to Tippet. Ted to Walker. Seems a nice fit to me. Maybe even better than had grundy played.

Out Walsh. In Reid. Key forward stability restored. We arent going anywhere in finals if Reid aint playing.

                      Smith in (to replace Grundy).

Armstrong in as spare parts man playing all over ground. May be the sub.

Seems logical to me. I can only assume that Morton is carrying some injury. He had his thigh heavily strapped recently. Pitty. If fully fit, I'd have him in as a forward, but I think Longmire has left his run too late for Morton.

Probably a good thing for being so stupid.

Do they appeal and take the chance of his having to serve 2 if it fails? I'd say not.

This makes sense???? Ben off and bloodied, Pods plays on.

Paul Chapman, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a Level One striking offence (80 points to his future record) against Ben McGlynn, Sydney Swans, during the first quarter of the Round 23 match between the Geelong Cats and the Sydney Swans, played at Simonds Stadium on Saturday September 1, 2012.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Sydney Swans Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record.

Heath Grundy, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a Level Three striking offence (225 points, two matches) against James Podsiadly, Geelong Cats, during the second quarter of the Round 23 match between the Sydney Swans and the Geelong CAts, played at Simonds Stadium on Saturday September 1, 2012.

In summary, due to a five-year good record, he can accept a one-match sanction.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Geelong Cats Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 126.56 points and a one-match sanction.

Steve Johnson, Geelong Cats, has been charged with a Level One engaging in rough conduct offence (125 points, one match) against Dan Hannebery, Sydney Swans, during the third quarter of the Round 23 match between the Geelong Cats and the Sydney Swans, played at Simonds Stadium on Saturday September 1, 2012.

In summary, due his existing poor record, his one-match sanction must remain at one match, even with an early plea.

I was thinking maybe challenge to downgrade to reckless instead of intentional (the intent being something other than high contact), but with loss of early plea discount would still leave it at one week I think with risk of 2 as you say.
