Oooh, conflicting opinions on an internet discussion forum, who would have thunk it?

I know Reg makes a few mistakes but he has helped out Ted a hell of a lot this year, and he could be a good addition to the Crows who have already lost Bock and Davis, and Rutten isn't getting any younger. For us on the other hand AJ has a lot of upside and LRT can play back for a couple of years while we unearth our next KPD, maybe even Walsh. So benefits of getting Tippett may well outweigh the cost.

But it's all speculation at this stage, have no idea if a deal will even get done, let alone who it will involve. Could see a trade involving Jesse as well.

(I know it feels awful talking about the thought of one of our premiership-winning 22 being traded so soon after cheering them on in the parade today, but unfortunately there's no rest for the wicked and trade week won't stop for any team...)

With AJ coming on in leaps and bounds, Ted and LRT, both excellent tall defenders...and possibles...Walsh and Spangher ...Grundy is expendable IMO.

He's been a good, but not great FB, his disposal and decision making coming out of defence, is often flawed.

For a player of Tippetts quality ( though he still has plenty to prove in terms of consistency) Grundy, at about 26, is ripe for trading.....

The crows badly need some more tall defenders.....Throw White, or his trade draft, in for good measure....It's a win win........maybe.

Will he be a blood? Concussions aside, he doesn't strike me as a team-first player. I've always thought of him as a show pony

I meant giant's post saying that Crows fans would agree with not wanting to trade Grundy, the implication was that they may not regard him as highly as we do (or at least, less highly than Tippett)... sorry if I misinterpreted

This. The thought of tossing out one of our premiership winning 'bloods', for an overpriced, overrated ( lets be honest here) player like Tippett just makes me feel sick. Can you imagine what the other players must be thinking ? Not too mention that he would walk in and be easily the highest paid player. Would be hard not to resent him. This could be the type of thing that really sours our pretty amazing culture, and could have a flow on effect that leads to us losing other star players.

Spot on. I trust the recruiters implicitly to know what's best, but until today hadn't given much thought to it given our aversion to similar ploys in the past (Fevola etc).

I don't want him taking $900k per year of our cap while the Luke Parker's destroy themselves in order to feed him the ball for a relative pittance

Given what we are told about the club culture being player led i would imagine that the players will have input into who is recruited - can't imagine the leadership group not being involved - if that is the case based on this years result i have no problem in supporting their judgement - their were times this year when i doubted our ability but after the Grand Final result I realise that while we all have opinions - the clubs record speaks for itself and i will be happy either way.

Everyone is assuming Tippett will be our highest paid player if we got him. This is based on him knocking back 800k from Adelaide. You are missing the point - Tippett's main priority is that he wants out of Adelaide, so what they offer him to stay is irrelevant. He may take a lot less to be where he feels comfortable. (If someone offers me a million dollars to eat a strychnine sandwich and someone else says they'll give me $2 to consume a fresh vanilla slice, I'll take the latter option!) And give our club credit, they won't do any deal unless the players are behind it.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

all the news on the radio tonight is that he is all but ours..

honestly though, I don't want him, no matter what price he comes at. But alas, I am not a recruiter.

This. If he comes to us, the team will be OK about it.

I can't see Reid and Tippet in the same forward line. Is it possible to consider dropping Reid back, if Grundy goes?

It would look a lot like Tippet and Walker, only without the mullet.

                              Tippett?

Reid lead up CHF, like a Nick Riewoldt. Tippett standing very close to goal. I can see it. Reid plays his best footy when he plays this role IMO.
