Particually if his form is no better than what it was at Adelaide.

For the price tag, and inevitable loss of player/s, he needs to be a dominant force which helps us challenge for at least 2 more flags....by challenge I mean play in GFs.

If he stagnates, it's a very poor outcome for the Swans....
I actually don't think KT is that expensive a gamble for us now. I'm thinking of both the trade cost and salary cost.

    1. Trade cost is essentially opportunbity cost i.e. what else could you have got with the same draft positions. Remember that we now look like getting him for almost zero trade cost ... we are spending 1 PSD draft choice when we originally expected to pay 1 first round pick + current fringe player as a minimum. So on the trade cost, we are getting a bargain.

    2. On salary cost, none of us know for sure how his contract will be structured. We just hear big total numbers via the press (who always will quote in a manner to grab attention) plus some reported details of how it would have been structured before the secret deal issue surfaced. We heard from this that he had to play a minimum number of games to get an extension. So I would trust that the Swans will again negotiate such that he only gets the really big dollars being mentioned if he plays matches. And we know he will only play in the Swans top 22 if he justifies his place, our selectors don't carry players much.

So on balance, I think KT

Some good points and reasonably intelligent commentary on the last couple of pages. What's going on? ;-)

We should also remember that Adelaide played him largely as a forward/ruck whereas we're unlikely to do that unless injuries force our hand.

On what evidence do you base that statement? Unless you're privy to the financial structure at the Swans, then you simply don't know this will happen...

A bit of silly season getting into us. Don't worry, we'll resume normal transmission shortly.

              Tippett?

Tippett playing very close to goal will be dangerous for us no doubt. He's mobile and he's 202cm. That's like trying to man a ruckman playing forward, but one who actually knows how to play forward, position himself, clink the ball etc. imagine him Myke and Reid. That will seriously push opposition backlines for height, someone is going to get a mismatch week in / week out. Throw Goodesy in too, look out.

We need someone to counter Lake in next years grand final rematch with the Hawks.

Seems to me that Tippetts PR machine far exceeds what he has achieved on the ground over the past three years in Adelaide. It may have already been stated in this thread but it not then how many Brownlow votes did Tippett get in 2012, 2011 and 2009?

If my web search was correct it was 1 in 2012, 3 in 2011 and 4 in 2010. Not exactly million dollar a year stuff.
That may be the case, but he is not a mid-fielder! They always get the votes.

Brownlow votes dont win a premiership . If he kicks more than 30 goals next year after he gets back then he will be considered a success no matter how many votes he gets.

30 goals for 800k+ is setting the bar a bit low in my opinion. Even Jetts did better than that.

Would be a good effort in 11 games (plus finals).
