Cruel as this may be, it is unfair on team mates to have to wear Jessie's shortcomings through a game or suffer from his ill thought decisions. Let's be frank: There are better performing players albeit not as tall playing at the State level i.e. SAFL, WA state league. Should we feel sorry for them (well, yes we should) that life made them better players but not taller?
Perceived lack of football skills is a bit different to implying that he lacks cognitive ability.

Is Tippett training with the Swans at the moment?

Nope, I don't agree. It's not about what he says, but about making the club visible. Today he's on the radio talking about Izzy, while wearing his club colours, talking about GWS and getting the club's name mentioned.

As Erica said, it's exactly what he's getting paid for, talking to the 'AFL clueless' in the hope they may wonder what all the fuss is about and have a peek at AFL in general and GWS in particular. He's doing a great job in that respect.

The truly clueless ones are the Sydney fans who can't wait for GWS to fall over thinking it will somehow help the Swans...

This whole episode has annoyed and upset me as I see an injustice. Not saying Tippett has not got some responsibility but in the scale of others it ranks 4 or 5th and he copes the biggest penalty.

Seeing how this has panned out would the penalty have been the same for Tippett if he had agreed & committed to go to GWS? Being the cynic I am I probably know the answer!!!

My first post so be kind.

Seems to me that Tippetts PR machine far exceeds what he has achieved on the ground over the past three years in Adelaide. It may have already been stated in this thread but it not then how many Brownlow votes did Tippett get in 2012, 2011 and 2009?

If my web search was correct it was 1 in 2012, 3 in 2011 and 4 in 2010. Not exactly million dollar a year stuff.

True, but he's not a midfielder
And welcome to the board, nice to have you along!

                            Firstly welcome to the site.

I certainly wouldn't use Brownlow votes as evidence of anything. It is a midfielder award after all. Also the coaches/recruiters would base their decision on Tippett by using their years of experience on judging footballers and not on any PR machine.

I always tell people to watch Tippett's performance in the Prelim final and then imagine he's at club he actually wants to be at.

He's a classy KP player who is only 25. This is an investment in keeping the Swans strong in the years to come.

If you refer to economics as a model, Swans are paying him on his perceived future value. They believe that he will be able to fulfil a required need, and are willing to pay him substantially for it. That may be due to lack of alternatives in the current environment (supply and demand).

I think it'd be unfair and unrealistic to equate salary with Brownlow votes. Brownlow is skewed towards midfielders anyway, and unless you're Sydney Swans, midfielders don't kick that many goals.

I don't really have any qualms with acquiring Tippett, and hope that he will earn his keep over the forthcoming seasons. If not, we can bay for his blood later.

Cognitive ability. Gimme a break. This is a football chat site not a quasi-academic outlet for self relief. You only need to go back 175-odd pages on this thread to gain an insight into the perversion of mankind's ability for abstract reasoning e.g. the need to trade Grundy, Parker or Kennedy to get Tippett and Seaby having two years left in him. Jessie White has the skills. He just lacks the smarts to be the footballer he has been trained to be. Essentially, and in football terms, he is a well skilled @@@@wit.
