177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Naahh, you have to look at the Thread name! Tippett!!! Not commenting on that. So it doesn't count. See?
I am just commenting on the comments that have nothing to do with the thread title. Anyway that makes sense to me.
And good point Cardinal. they sure will know we are coming in 2013. (See that isn't a comment on Tippett is it?).You can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

I dont know why a lot of people and media think Tippet is worth a draft pick and a premiership player. He would be a very handy player indeed but I think you are underplaying Grundys worth if you think hes worth say grundy and a first round pick .
What did Jolly go to the pies for? . Surely tippet isnt any more trade value than he is, its just the media interest thats been attributed to this one that seems to have made this bigger. If it were me Id be offerring any one or two of Meredith, Moore, White, Everitt plus first round pick.Comment

It's just amazing how twisted those outside the club are about us getting Tippett. Wanting to take away the COL and Adelaide blaming us for going after a player that was clearly out of their club for over a year. The coaching change last year probably hurt their assessment of the situation.
On the other hand, there is little said about how other clubs, particularly Melbourne clubs, taking (legal) advantage of rules that favour them. For instance:
1. Brendon Goddard goes to the Dons for nothing. Everyone else pays St Kilda with an AFL compensation pick. Well that's free agency.
2. Essendon get Joe Daniher at pick 10. He could have opted to choose Sydney and we would have gotten him for pick 23 and there would not have been aTippett deal for sure. Bad luck Swans. Good luck Dons.
3. GSW are looking very astute in building their team. Just snared pick 12 from the Saints. Looks like they will have another 5 1st round picks. I think its great for Sydney in general if GWS build a strong competitive team. But they are looking like they will be a powerhouse in a few years time. GC are not doing badly either.
4. Collingwood getting Lynch in the free agency is another strengthening move for them that they get for nothing.
5. Freo land Pearce for nothing.
Just heard that Hawthorne landed Brian Lake.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with any of these deals. Only that there seems to be some very savvy trading going on and despite being Premiers, we will have to take every advantage available to us if we are to remain competitive. The strong teams are getting stronger. We need to keep up.
I don't know why all the talk is made to look like we've done something fishy and have somehow milked the system to our (unfair) advantage.Comment

I wonder how much Hawthorn's recruiting of Lake has to do with us possibly getting Tippett. We are one of their main threats to next year's premiership, and their defence has been their only weakness. If we land Tippett, then we could cause their defence massive problems as it is.Comment

How they can fit Buddy, Roughhead, Gibson, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Cyril, Sewell, Lewis, etc. into their salary cap is beyond belief.
Another funny thing is that in the year they took Roughhead with the number 2 (which was a priority pick), they ended up with Roughhead, Buddy and Jordon Lewis by having 3 of the top 7 picks. Buddy Franklin went number 5 that year. Without the 3 priority picks, the number 5 pick would have gone to Adelaide. Let them vent their anger on clubs tanking and getting super stars that could have gone to them.Comment
