I think I read somewhere today that Sheed`s is sniffing around. Maybe KT could end up in Sydney but not the Swans??

I remain fairly confident that no team will want to risk drafting a player that may end up suing his former club or the AFL. Personally, I don't care if he goes elsewhere, but if Tippett ends up somewhere he doesn't want to be, it could spell trouble; the kind of trouble the AFL would like to avoid. I somehow feel because of this the AFL will find a way to make it happen. I would imagine that Ireland's statement about making the Tippett deal happen was made after consultation with the Tippett camp, and we can interpret that as meaning that they still want Kurt to come to the Swans. I am sure those in the Tippett camp have been instructed to say nothing, which is why we have heard nothing from them for some time. Everyone will wait for the AFL to speak first before deciding what to do next.

Doubt it they need to get try keep all there higher draft picks, investing heaps of money into a big risk like Tippet could derail there whole structure.

I seems pretty clear now that Tippett will be a Swan at the end of all this. The club wants him, he wants to come here and nothing will get in the way.

No one will dare dob him in as being culpable. He will come out of this as the innocent victim of professionals that should have known better. Tippett will not be deregistered or suspended or face any serious fine. If he did receive a serious sanction, it would imply that a player cannot rely on his professional management nor his employer (the AFC in this case), to deal with him in a legal manner and would permit him to act in a way that could cause him to lose his job. Furthermore, it could be argued that a player would be required to hire a lawyer to protect himself from being cheated and lied to by his manager, his employer and his parents as well, in order to be safe that they don't get him in hot water.
There's that, but also the pragmatic side of it. We've had a big clear out to fit him on our list. The fact all this came out at the end of the trade period, and not the start, works hugely in our favour.

                  unless we get him and
                  - he gets a string of concussions, barely strings a half-season together and retires in 18 months or
                  - his patchy form keeps being patchy or
                  - his willingness to turn his back on his teammates when they are on the rise and penchant for special "i get what i want" clauses in his contracts that ensure his freedom to do so turn out to be the actions of a d*ckhead who's just cashed in.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Agreed. The concussions and the form issues were things that the Swans have obviously done their due diligence and must be confident that these can be overcome. However your third point would not have, and could not have, been known to our recruiting staff when the decision was made to recruit KT. That, and the smaller things such as telling his teammates he's leaving by text message, raise real question marks over whether we need him on our list in 2013 and the impact this could have. Whilst I don't deny we need someone of his calibre on the field, on the other hand we also don't need someone with this stuff hanging over his head.

Didn't he turn down massive money from the Crows because he just wanted out the joint? Also why is it wrong for a guy to get the best possible conditions written into his contract.

I don't think Tippett has ever been happy in Adelaide, his last contract signing there was touch and go and he hasn't left Adelaide for the money because we are offering about the same when you consider the Adelaide brown paper bags!

He actually wants out of Adelaide (the place) and wants to be in Sydney with the Swans. That's a big plus as he wants to be here and if anyone thinks he hasn't got huge talent watch the Crows last final game. I reckon he will fully realise his talent if he can get to us.

If anyone else can fit him into their salary cap, I reckon they would be cautious about drafting a reluctant Tippett who may not perform for them but will hang on their list for four years. Only GWS has that luxury but a reluctant Tippett would be taking salary cap they will desperately need as their cap reduces over the next four years and they need to start paying their 25 first round picks true market value. GWS however may make lots of noise for publicity purposes!

I reckon we are better than 50% to land him and for free. We get to keep pick 22 AND Jesse!

                          Hi all
This is my first post been reading this thread for last few weeks.
Dont know if anyone watched offsiders yesterday but wheatley was pretty definitive in
1)Tippet is looking at definite deregistration for some period in 2013
2)Afl going to come down hard on AFC
3)Gws met this w/end to formulate the could afford Tippet are definitely interested and dont give a rats that he says he wants to go to swans.Wheatley was very definite that after serving his period of suspension/deregistration that Tippet would be in orange next year.

I assume you mean Gerard Whateley? He's a good journalist and very knowledgeable, but he does have a penchant for trying to make himself seem more authoritative by making definitive statements about things that are still in the realm of speculation. He could well be right about this one, but bear in mind that he's been wrong before, even when his statements have been absolutely categorical. Self-doubt is not in his nature. He also loves soccer and horse-racing, which should give one pause.

I'm still confused about the outrage over the 'goodbye, I'm leaving' texting.

I imagine he was on the Gold Coast and the rest of the Adelaide guys were spread in various parts of Australia and overseas. How was he supposed to tell 40+ guys??

I guess he could have told them on Facebook, much more personal and certainly more official, if it's on Facebook, it's gospel...
