I dont understand other than for salary cap reasons why Gold Coast wouldnt take him in the PSD. They are dying out for a decent forward, they are one year ahead of GWS in development and he comes from Queensland.
Further they have no real relationship with Sydney to sully and its more likely that he would after a period of time be happy there anyway.
If Tippetts motivation is to be with a contender then Gold Coast are possibly closer than GWS (although I know this is debatable) although with either lets face it they are probably three to four seasons away from really contending so he may be at risk of missing out completely if injuries / more concussion get in the way.
As for deregistration type sanctions on tippett , the AFL will be seriously treading a dangerous path to do that. Im thinking that suspension though along the lines of a charge of bringing the game into disrepute is possible such that the AFL could argue that he isnt prevented from earning his living just from playing.
