    Much ado about nothing.

Are we near the Barrygate record yet Scott?

Thank you everyone for providing us with a deep and insightful view of your various capacities for taking the piss, high anxiety, voices of reason, wild and inaccurate rumour mungoring, hints of boganism and getting stuck in right left and centre. I for one am having a lot of fun and belly laughs. Brilliant stuff.

We probably won't get Tippett and I don't care all that much. But it has given us a release of post Grand Final tension if nothing else.
Primmy you can readjust the amount of posts on a page. Mine is only on page 38.

        Tippett?

Not sure whether this is true ( source : AFL draft week trades & rumours FB page) but apparently Dawes has been traded to the dogs for picks 21 and 47 with an announcement to be made to to tomorrow . I know the circumstances are different with Tippett ( being out of contract, can walk to PSD etc) , but when you look at that you can understand why the Crows will want a lot better than pick 23 and a fringe player. Tippett is a far better player than Dawes.

I still like him and I would think he is actually better value than many players over round 2. I genuinely hope he gets a gig and makes the most of himself.

My feeling is that we are ones holding up this trade. I think we want to retain our 1st round pick (probably #23) and are offering our second round pick and some combination of players (Jesse, Meredith, TDL) that we would be happy to offload. But they don't want any of the players, so we need to acquire draft picks to add to the deal. All the talk about us offering pick 23 plus a quality player is nonsense IMO. I believe the problem is that we are not even offering pick 23. I don't think we want to enter the draft with our first pick in the mid 40s with all of our competitors racking up high compensation picks left, right and centre. Whenever there is a trade to be done, some quality team pulls another compo pick out of the hat to deal with.

If you do things right and perform above expectations, then everyone wants to take something away from you (like the COL). But if you screw up, you get compensation.

Adelaide know how lucky they are that we came to the table. Otherwise they would have had to deal with GC, who would have given them the absolute minimum. GC know quite well that they will be under scrutiny and probably some harsh criticism for how they built their team compared to GWS. It will not be a happy place for the football department at GC if GSW perform better than them over the coming years, which is looking very likely given that GWS will have 25 1st round picks in their side next year. That's why I feel that GC would have offered at best their second round pick #25 for Tippett, as per the so called gentleman's agreement, and would have been all too happy to let him go to the PSD and get him for nothing.

This is where I think the starting point is for the negotiations: Something equivalent to pick 25. The Swans want to do the deal and still retain their premiership players and pick 23, which is looking difficult because no one is ready to deal for the players we have on offer.

I think some of the vitriol thrown at Sydney over the Tippett deal has truly angered Andrew Ireland, and rightfully so. Business is business, and I don't think the respective negotiators will let emotions get in the way, but the solution is looking very tricky.

The more this drags on the gloss is being taken off our winning the flag last week. It's all just a bit of a farce.

I didn't want to give them Reg. I said that it might end up that way because it would be too difficult to come to terms with what we are willing to offer. I think we want to keep both Reg and pick 23, but this is looking very difficult, as the deal would have to include one or more fringe players that nobody seems to want. I made a suggestion that Reg for Tippett and an exchange of 1st round picks in our favour might just be enough as is could get us into a high enough position in the draft to get a fairly good KPP.

I have no inside information whatsoever. Just trying to assess the situation from all angles and guess how things may fall out.

When taking all things into consideration, I think the deal will be done for around half of Tippett's true full market value. I could very well be wrong about this, but it's just the way things look to me. It's quite probable that I would put a different value on the various aspects of the trade than the real negotiators do. Basically, I'm just playing Kinnear Beatson for a bit of amusement. Maybe if I get it right I'll apply for a job as Port Adelaide's list manager.

If they want a "Reg" lets give them Reg Mombasa. He could draw lovely flying testes on the seat covers. Oh, wrong Club.

I have a personally signed poster of said flying whatses from Reg actually. What a family heirloom that will be.

The Swans will just wait and take him in the PSD. They can outbid anyone before them.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

My prediction is still our second round pick, Grundy and White.
For that we'll get Tippet and a late round pick.
