I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time -

They asked Roos today on the broadcast who would make way for Tippett and he suggested one of the ruckmen. I can't see why they wouldn't play Tippett as a permanent forward as Goodes can play on the wing or anywhere for that matter. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

I think Goodes can still play anywhere, however he is not as effective as he was everywhere.
He has more specific roles now - to get the most from him as well as protect him (remember his ruck issues from years past)The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Tippet himself has mentioned (I don't have the source at hand) that he has been training in the Ruck and up FWD.
Maybe they are looking at a Hall type roll? Go into the ruck when the ball is forward???"Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Not like we need a ruckman at the moment.
always handy to have someone trained up and ready to go in that area though....

I think the value of Tippett is going to be as a permanent forward doing the ruck in the forwardline occasionally. He will kick goals that way. He was more productive as a forward when he stayed most of the time there for Adelaide.
I don't think we are going to drop any of the two big blokes. They both contribute to the team balance. LRT will probably play in the back half when he comes back or pinch hit.Comment

If Tippett were available for the Lions game I suppose he would've taken Lamb's place. It makes more sense than dropping Pyke or Mumford.
The whole idea of recruiting him was to have a tall forward line - him, Reid, Goodes and a ruckman. With his pace and agility Goodes also plays like a medium or small forward, plus he can also take turns in the mid.The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

He is actually 1cm shorter than young Sam Naismith. But of course Sam is only a rookie.

In qtr 1 yesterday we saw Sam matched up against the Lions second defender (a rookie, name escapes me) while Merrett was put onto Mummy. Result was Sam blitzed it. Then in Q2 and onwards, Merritt was mostly on him and Sam was not as dominant (although still much better than previous games this year). I realise that the Lions just hadn't turned up mentally in Q1, be even so it was enough for me to be convinced that a Tippett + Reid fwd combo is going to be a handful for our opposition. Six down. Five to go. I'm looking forward to the reaction from Crows-centric commentators and Crows supporters if he hits his straps straight away.Comment
