I read White has already relocated to Melbourne.

A White deal with a Melbourne based club....Wobbles....must be just about signed and sealed you'd think.

      White's moved into Chopper's House.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

Clubs can try and trade players that refuse to sign a contract extension but the reality is that the player can say no so the player will dictate terms. Would think they would be more likely to run down their contract...

Free agency favours clubs with strong cultures (e.g us) and really disadvantage clubs like the Dees and Saints. Can see why it had to happen due to a restraint of trade action threatened but it is bound to widen the gap between the haves and have nots...

All in all I think it is fair. Players have rights and shouldn't be seen as pieces of property. IMO 8 years is more than long enough to be tied to the Draft System.

I think most clubs (especially ones in periods of success) will back themselves to keep the players they want to keep, especially those still in their prime and cemented in the best 22. Even more so when they play a position the club has no real back up for. And where the player is in the leadership group and has never given any indication he wants to leave. Why try to trade them a year before they come out of contract? You risk suggesting to a player he's not really wanted.

At some point down the track, we will lose a player at age 26 or 27 who is vital to the team and we don't want to lose because he wants a change of scenery or another club offers him a lot of money. We can't expect to gain a Franklin and never expect to lose anyone. It's just the way things are going to be. When it happens, I hope both the departing player and the Swans handle it with the grace that Hawthorn and Franklin have displayed in abundance (as opposed to the Collingwood method of sulking and bad mouthing). Actually, I don't hope, I expect, because that's the way the Swans have handled departures (and arrivals) over the past decade.

Can't see any of those deals being worth a lot of currency but good to give them opportunities. Not sure why anyone would take on Armstrong to be honest

Everitt would be a solid recruit for GWS, and if they could get half a dozen similar type of players they'll be well on the way to being competitive. I always thought he was OK and would really like to see him carve out a good 10 year, 150-200 game career

If the Giants do have an interest in Everitt, I wonder whether we can some how use him and Mumford to secure Bugg. Bugg is a name they've thrown up as someone they're prepared to trade, which kinda surprised me because he was impressive in 2012. I have no idea how they rate him - ie is he expendable or is he just a name they've thrown out there to snare a pretty good player. And of course, the reality is that they don't really need to give up much of value to get either Everitt or Mumford. But if they'd like to trade, rather than wait to the PSD, could this be an option?

I was hoping we could package someone like Everitt with Mummy for a player, as I don't think we will get much for Mummy alone. I was more thinking of a KPP like Jaksch or Corr, because of retirements down the line, but Bugg is not bad and could be useful. Anything would be better than losing Mummy to the PSD.

Bugg would possibly free up Nick Smith to run more through the midfield and I could see him fitting in quite well for us but I doubt it will happen (much like I doubted we'd be even remotely interested in that Buddy bloke).....

I'm for anything that gets Smooch into the midfield, so Mummy and Another Player to GWS would help build the rivalry I think

Hopefully GWS are planning to snare some other player with their PSD pick 1.

In which case they will be willing to trade for Mummy.

                          It seems Geelong have surfaced.

The talk is they are trying to lure Smith and offload Varcoe.....Hmmmm, it will take more than that!

Also they may be interested in White....The plot thickens.

If Smith does want to return to Melbourne...Then let's try to trade him to Melbourne, with White, for pick 2.

I watched a lot of the Giants last year, not by choice mind you! Bugg lost his spot as the small defender midyear as Sheedy preferred Hampton, Kennedy and Haynes as his mid-small defenders.

Bugg came back in round 16 against us as a forward tag and proceeded to serve up the worst performance I've seen in that role. He had five touches and conceded 30 to Malceski

I would say he is trade able for the right price but given some of the demands GWS have been rumored to have asked for (Bruce for pick 21 really?!) it might prove unrealistic

Am I in the major minority? I don't want to lose Everitt. He has come on very nicely, we have invested a lot in him, and unless he is aching to move on then why on earth would we ditch him at this stage! All that work!! Him and the coaches. He has done some damned good stuff for us this year.

                              As for Smooch. Honestly???

Bugg......bet we could hand him over to Crouchy and see some positive change.

                                Today's rumour-mill from afl.com.au:

Speculation persists that the Swans' premiership defender Nick Smith could be on the trade table. The Swans see Smith as a future leader but he has strong family roots in Melbourne and often considers a move back home.

The Swans would not like to see a player of such quality depart but they could be prepared to cut their losses for the right price.

Moving up the draft order is believed to be on the Swans' mind but there is some suggestion the Swans have been talking to Geelong.

From the Cats, the speculation here is that Travis Varcoe could be on the market.

Varcoe's run would be of interest to the Swans and they may see him as a running defender to replace the ageing Rhyce Shaw - who was injured for most of 2013 and in the few games he did play he was used up forward.
                                and

Sydney Swans forward Jesse White's trade to Collingwood appears inevitable, after he moved to Melbourne, but don't rule out Geelong.
