I can't believe what some people on here would be willing to give up for pick 2. Ask yourself two questions: are we in the business to win premierships and are we in a position to win premierships now? Any Swans fan worth their membership would answer in the affirmative so why on earth would we even remotely consider letting Jetta/Parker/Reid/McGlynn/Roahn/Smith ect. go?!
Apparently for some people here the thought of a gangly 17 year old kid with 'POTENTIAL' hanging round his neck is worth more than the absolute delight of another premiership, because really that's what it boils down to. The fact is our list is strong and without a lot of weaknesses no wholesale changes need to be considered. Move on the players who want to leave, bring in Buddy and a few more minor picks - that should be it for us.Comment

Agree with a lot of what has been said. There is no absolute standout at pick 2 which is probaby why it's being shopped by Melbourne and we can't let any more experienced players go as we are already light on for depth, that's depth that will win a flag.
We must have a real crack at the flag next year as it could be the last time with Goodes and ROK so letting go premiership quality player/s for an 18yo with potential doesn't seem a logical move.
My bet is that pick 2 will stay with Melbourne.
Can't believe we are rolling over for a late 2nd/early 3rd for Jesse. He showed real ability this year and is that rarest of players, a CHF. Worth at least as much as Crameri who Essendon have knocked back pick 22 for. Play a bit hard ball here Swans, Collingwood have a lot of high draft picks (looking like 9, 10 & 11 if Shaw goes to GWS) that we should be able to engineer a trade for. Collingwood currently hold pick 27 that will become pick 29 after first round FA compo picks are given to Hawthorn and Collingwood.Last edited by 707; 9 October 2013, 05:26 AM.Comment

Gary Rohan + McGlynn + Pick 14 for pick 2?????????????? Are you freaking nuts????? Melbourne would trade pick 2 for Gary Rohan in a heartbeat!!!!! He was taken at pick 6 with potential....and has now PROVEN his potential which makes him worth MORE than pick #6. Think about it.
BTW for the Swans to even entertain ANY discussions of pick 3 they must have a player they REALLY want.....Aish or Scharenberg presumably because we wouldn't give up a top 15 player (which you would have to to get pick 2) unless it was for someone ready to go who could add something to the Swans midfield that we are lacking....that thing is class/polish like a Burgoyne or Dal Santo or Pendlebury....or genius like Ablett or Judd or O'Meara.
So if they reckon that Aish is that player - then it wouldn't be a shock to trade Smith OR Bird for him.....not sayin' they SHOULD, mind you.
And how can a 25 year old CHF who will slot straight into the hardest position on the ground in a premiership window team POSSIBLY be only worth pick 35????????????????????????????????????
Hampson went for 28 and he can't even get a game at Carlton. I'll offer them picks 10 and 28 for Jesse and 14....EAT THAT!
For other people on this forum, I hope a pick two trade is not completed with Melbourne, but I was investigating different options if the recruiting staff wanted to get pick 2.
Free agency will throw up more trades in the future as clubs will look to move on players who are nearing free agency, and all clubs will be looking at salary cap room to have a crack at free agency targets!Comment

I like Garry Rohan as well Sharp9, but there is no way be is worth pick 2 alone! He has shown flashes of brilliance of the highest class, but has also had two seasons destroyed by injury! If he has a breakout season in 2014, like Lewis Jetta in 2012, I would then value him more near a top 5 pick!
Take a look at the top 9 picks from Rohan's draft of 2009:
Scully: not performing up to the hype of a number one pick.
Trengove: Disappointing
Dustin Martin: Good player, but more trouble than he's worth
Morabito: Injuries may end career
Cunnington: Good player, but no star.
Rohan: Great potential, but only played 27 games in 4 years due to injury
Shappard: Not shown he was worth a pick 7
John Butcher: Not shown much yet
Andrew Moore: Just getting going. Who know?
This was hyped as a very strong draft, but hasn't quite demonstrated that yet. Nat Fyfe at pick 20 looks the pick of the draft. I wouldn't be giving away too much to get into the top 9. I can only see taking the risk of trading into pick 1 to get Boyd, but this is obviously not for us.Comment

Is there another small/big defender out there with possibility not getting a run? What about a ruck? Maybe they are looking for a "lock-down" tagger?"Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

the only reason I can think of with smith possibly being floated is how well rampe come along this year, with the thinking of how we can fit AJ and Rampe in the back line...but Smith can shut down the small forwards pretty well though he was beaten a frew times this year by the real quick small forwards...
our pressing concern I reckon is our need for big bodied defenders to replace Teddy and grundy, LRT.....is reid the answer to that scenario???? reg is mpore often than not beaten by the bigger forwards....and power forwards are coming back into their own now IMO....
I doubt we would trade out our yng midfield...it was our biggest strength this year...

I can understand Smith wanting to get some more midfield time, but it would mean that Bird takes ROK's place on the ball and Smith gets tagging roles on outside mids. He should be quite good at this, and like Bird, can be damaging on the rebound. I don't see why this wouldn't work. If Rhyce can come back to play another year at halfback, then Smith could make the move to the midfield. Maybe Biggs will have a big preseason and look ready to take over from Smith.Comment
