If there is any truth to the Swans chasing Pick 2 then I am guessing that it would make sense that should we get this pick we could package it with Mummy for Pick 1.

So it would be either Boyd or a midfielder. I thought a young key forward would be harder to get than a very good midfielder.

Just reported on AFL.com.au that we could be looking to offload more players. Reportedly we are chasing a pick inside the top 5 and the report suggests someone like Nick Smith with the lure of going back home to Vic would have high trade currency.

Geez...we cannot lose Smooch. Our small backman to tie up the likes of Rioli etc. Seriously trade periods are frustrating!

When Smithy first arrived I never would have believed he could become such a good defender

Given his rise and rise is it fair to say that Rampe or Shaw could do a job almost as good as Smithy in season 2014 ?

Could Rampe actually take his game to the next level and be a great man on man defender ? Or a better question may be is there any reason why Rampe could not achieve a great defender level man marking the small forwards ?

Or could we be making a play for Heath Shaw....?

Is it possible that Rampe plus the return of AJ will satisfy our half back needs for next year? McVeigh was also sensational from half back in '13 and Malceski did his job. Interesting times...maybe Smooch's currency is so high that he IS being considered for trade.

Would be a pity, because now Marty has retired, he seems the only small defender we have that seems capable of being a stopper: Shaw, Mal, captain gumby, Armstrong and maybe even Rampe seem to play a more offensive role. . . . Maybe that is the issue?

Could see us targeting Melbourne's pick 2. Roos knows our list well, and wants ready made players, whereas we have time to let a player develop for a year or two before they come in.

Smith & Parker would be considered I believe. I love both those players so I don't say that lightly, but they are both a very replaceable type of player.

                    According to you...

Would you trade Smith and Parker for Jack Watts? Pick 2 is just a 17 year old in a shallow draw who has achieved SFA. Parker and Smith are proven AFL players both capable of playing over 200 games. This obsession over draft picks needs to end.

I don't see that - particularly for Nick. At school he was the star and Cyril was the bit player. I don't think that's changed. We would be very, very, very lucky to get a player in the draft who was as good as Nick (or as hard as Luke for that matter). Being able to completely negate the opposition's best small forward has given us a lot of wins. Lose Nick and I think we'll lose those game in 2014. Unless he wants to leave it would be bizarre for us to trade him.

And given our recent history with round one picks we'd be lucky if we got a Watts with pick 2.

I'd rather keep Parker than Smith.
But I'd much rather keep both...

Not saying it will or should happen, just that it would be considered should it arise. Smith and Parker are both quality players, hence pick 2 being mentioned.

Yes there is an obsession with draft picks for some, but I don't think there is much risk with pick 2. How would you like to see a Trent Cotchin or Nick Nat in Swans colours? Watts was Pick 1, and I truly believe he would be a better player if he was drafted to a club with better players staff and culture surrounding him. Pick 2 is a standout junior talent, something we rarely get the chance to obtain.

I think through injury we've learned a lot about our list depth and talent. Due to acquiring buddy, we may move on a number of fringe, or replaceable players of decent wages to allow us room to retain up and coming youngsters due to be re-signed in the coming year or two until goodes and ROK retire.

Smith and Parker are both quality which will help Melbourne greatly, but are both very one paced. Remember that the rotations are capped next year.

Nb - entire post is speculation on my behalf. I do not wish to see our players traded, but think this situation would certainly require deep thought.

The talk of trading a Smith or a Parker, let alone both, is ridiculous. We're recruiting Buddy to win premierships, ideally starting next year while Goodsey and ROK are still around to enjoy it. Parker and Smith are an integral part of the best 22. We have no-one in the reserves remotely capable of filling either of their shoes, and both arguably have their best years of football ahead of them.

If Roos wants two premiership players for pick 2 I say we give him Marty and Morton.
