I would have thought Heath Shaw would be worth a bit more than that. For starters he is under contract and he is in demand.

I would have thought that they would expect either Taylor Adams in a straight swap or pick 19 in a straight swap. Expect Eddie to strike a pretty hard bargain with the Bogans but then again I think they are pretty keen to get that knob out of Collingwood. People talk about our deal with Buddy but a 5 year deal at $700,000 for Shaw also looks a bit excessive

I meant Shaw and Collingwood's third round pick for Adams and GWS's third round pick

As well as getting Tippett even more cheaply than pick 22 and White in the end, we've also benefitted from trade bargains for the likes of JPK and Rhyce Shaw, because their clubs were willing to do the right thing by players who had - reasonably - requested a change of scenery.
disagree strongly...we didn't HAVE picks 10 and 11 to trade with...or we would have. We don't HAVE to trade Jesse to Collinwood. Neither Shaw nor Joey were traded cheaply...both were not being sought by more than one club. Shaw would have been delisted after plying one of the worst finals in history v Adelaide. If they offer nothing under 25 send him to the draft! Adelaide mad a written promise to KT to trade home to his club of choice...can't recall that we did that with Jesse!

Maybe as part of the Shaw trade Collingwood will swap 3rd round picks with GWS and we will end up with both of them: One for White and the other for Mummy. That's the kind of ripoff we usually pull on other clubs.

just realised that varcoe is only 2 months older than smith (i thought the bloke was about 30). not that i want to add to the stupid rumour that has been concocted by the media.... but just some food for thought

I have no problem with Varcoe if he is healthy.

the reality is we got smashed in our counter attack against the top teams and we need to sure up the best opportunity to have a go at the 2014 premiership as we have a team ready to peak again in 2014 and probably 2015 also if our young ones keep rising up

what are the best options to change our lack of play out of the backline in season 2014 and beyond ?

2014 maybe Rhys can help if he is fit and healthy...........but we need to make sure of our ability to run out of the back 50m as the top3 teams hurt us badly in this area and we couldnt beat them

ps i dont want to loose a Smith either - who would unless we have an answer to filling in for him at close to 90% ability and we can answer our problem of being able to run out of the backline better against the top 3 teams as this area and our mid field were below the top 3 teams when we played against them

as i have mentioned many a time

When Smithy humbly came along who would have ever expected the rise and rise..........maybe a few of us who watched ressies thought yeah he is good but could he be one of the best small defenders??..........nah not me !

Rampe on the other hand with a few years on his side but less snr football.......has impressed me to no end.........if Rampe cant start to dominate like Smithy in 2014 i will be amazed - that doesnt mean i am right it is just my opinion that Dane is an absolute athlete and hard nosed footballer and can equally develop into a player of Smithys ability

So if I am right then Rampe could by mid season by very close to Smithys ability in that role !

i'm thinking with alex johnson to come back, rampe will move to a more attacking-defender role and help with some run out of the backline.

Rampe could play in the guts with his size, run and booming and accurate kick could be a replacement for ROK. From what I gather he was a mid in his pre swans footy life ?

Amazing that he was playing for UNSW in the local comp last year, albeit as the League B&F...

He has come on leaps and bounds this year and one would think has a bit of improvement in him last year. Hopefully AJ can make a full recovery and Gary Rohan will be much better after a full pre-season.

Add in Brandon Jack, Cunningham and a couple of others and there are at least half a dozen players who could improve 10-20% next season.

Future is bright, I'm looking forward to getting back into the habit of watching the twos again next season

As good as rampe is, there is no chance he will be as good as smith is in that role after another 1/2 a season. Smith is in the top few in that position in the league, rampe is a rookie who had a good first season in the league. There is a long way to go before rampe is anywhere near as good as smith
