I'm a little disappointed that Jed is going but not devastated. Losing a Parker or Hanners would have been far more of a blow. Both of them seem to love the club and never thought about leaving.
Spot on Liz. The immediate reaction by some RWOers to the news that Lamb was seeking a trade was that he is a casualty of the Franklin recruitment. I don't believe that is the case. GWS appear to have offered him more than the Swans think he is currently worth. Good luck to Lamb, I hope it works out for him. The Swans will be ok, as you say they had already signed up the players they regard as their top priorities.

agree, he wasn't a stand out, but a good bit part player and we seem to have a few of them..
every year a lot of people bemoan what our list guys are doing, yet we are the model that most clubs have followed now with our recruiting methods.
we get what we need and when we need it,
the likes of buddy is a once in generation football akin to ablett jnr...asking to come to our great club when years gone by, no one wanted to play for the swans and everyone wanted to go home..its a credit to our club to have players now wanting to come here and not bit part players but quality players...

I can see us offloading some of our bit part players and targeting whether trade or draft KPP as I think and I have said in previous posts that our KPP in defence is where we need to bolster and develop as Teddy aint going to be there forever...

It all seems to be just normal list management, not dissimilar to other years. If we sign Everitt, but Armstong is moved on, then we have 8 senior list players out, with Franklin in and 2 rookies added so far. Let's say we use our top 4 ND picks, elevate 3 rookies and add another to the rookie list, perhaps a backup ruckman like Jolly or Seaby. If Everitt moves on as well, just add another rookie upgrade and draft pick.

That sounds a lot like last year, when we took 4 in the ND plus added Tippett. Our pick selections are actually better than last year, even if we get nothing for Lamb (a likely scenario).

Last year we delisted a superfluous ruckman that we gave a fairly high draft pick for (Seaby) and Jarrad Moore, who I would rate higher than Lamb.

It's not really all that different from last year except that the players moved on have some trade value, but we don't think we are getting a fair shake. But in the end the team will be even stronger, as there's very little dead weight on the roster, not even the rookie list.

There is still a chance that the Swans may keep Jed Lamb. If the Giants don't offer better than pick 44 for Lamb or another combination, we can refuse the deal, and let him flow through to the PSD. The Giants will then be forced to take him at 1 in the PSD, which may be a hindrance to GWS as there may be a better uncontracted player they can take with that pick.

The GWS contract with Lamb may then be withdrawn and he will be set two options:

            1) sign with the Swans before he is delisted ( like ROK)

2 throw himself into the PSD and hope for the best! I think if GWS don't take him with pick 1 then he runs the risk of not being in the AFL system in 2014. I hope he has other suitors apart from GWS. He will not be the best uncontracted player available in the PSD. GWS did a deal for Mumford because they believed that there may be a better player available than Mumford at pick 1 in the PSD.

When we had the walking wounded in the finals and Lamb couldn't get in this was a done deal. There were bigger trades to be done earlier this was set some time ago.

I am sick of journalists saying GWS lost Franklin because of Sydney they lost Franklin because they are GWS if we hadn't taken him he would have stayed at Hawthorn. As for Lamb whilst I don't believe he is a big loss to the Swans I don't think we lost him as a result of the Franklin deal as he was obviously looking for a better deal all year and I for one don't blame him as who wouldn't. White was always leaving especially after last year and who can blame him either, Everitt always border line. Premiers always lose players, we will/have lost some but gained 2 pretty good players and retained quite a few too. Who knows there may be another Rampe or Parker out there this year. In addition, as has been stated in other posts who out of White, Lamb, Everitt and Mumford are in our best 22, I would argue there is only Mummford.

"The Swans offered a two-year extension to Lamb?s contract early in the year, but the number 21 draft pick chose to wait till the end of this season before he made a decision on his future."

Its getting pathetic how much they are engineering this hate towards us. The massive mistruths and the way they are using negative and emotional words has been so typically news limited and herald sun.

I just hope they push it to the point that the clubs seeks some kind of defamation or something to stop the massive lies and deception. There are a fair few people who now think the swans are just a disgusting club, more so than the bombers, such is the stupidity down here atm.

I have never experienced such terrible and petulant behaviour from a whole group of fans of a code.

Too true, I think it's still sad saying goodbye to players but the other "depth" we have still hasn't been tested (last year's drafts, Jordan Lockyer) and the strong rookie list that we have (Rampe, Lloyd, Robinson, BJack, Shiggs) can all cover for the losses IMHO except for Mummy

I have been a big fan of Jed for a while now but close to a million bucks for three years!!!!! With or without Buddy I can't imagine the Swans would ever have matched that.

Gives a new twist to GW$ doesn't it.
                            And good luck to him.

He probably is worth that, but not yet.

The combination of free agency plus the expansion clubs mean there's going to be a lot more players are going to be moving for cash. We may as well get used to it.

and now comes the revelation that as part of the Heath Shaw-Taylor Adams deal GWS have managed to make Collingwood agree to pay part of the $800k contract for 2014. Salary cap squeeze already (and they have the CoLA too!)
