Don't like these injuries, but it does mean that the reserves get to use more local top up players. Rampe and Naismith were discovered as top up players.

Huge opportunity for ROK. A good performance will buy him some more in the seniors.

I suspect that Pyke will spend a lot of time deep forward, due to Reid being unavailable. LRT and Tom D will to a lot of the ruck work. Pyke will need to break even with Rutton.

Laidler will be there to play as a 3rd with LRT needed forward.

There is not much information on Reid's injury. I just hope it was not a ruptured Achilles? Does anyone have more information on the injury.

I think it will be good for Naismith to continue to play a lot of ruck time in the reserves. If he can get amongst the best players in the next couple of rounds he may be able to mount a more telling case for his inclusion!

It's a large ground so be ready for Jetta, Rohan and Buddy to use their great pace to advantage.

There has to be a change on Saturday. Derickx out and Towers the sub. Harry's been one of the few highlights for us this season. How can he be dropped from the 21? Adelaide are only playing one legit ruckman in Jacobs. Surely LRT can match it with Jenkins. If your backup ruckman is Dean Cox, okay. But we're playing Derickx, someone more valuable to the team while sitting on the bench than on the field.

Interesting that Essendon are going with 2 forwards as their ruck combo, Carlisle and young Joe Daniher, instead of bringing in an untested fulltime ruckman. Bomber Thompson understands football. He's also backed in a couple of young players, Ambrose and Gleason.

Perhaps Laidlers inclusion is to allow Rampe to be released further up the field. His run would be handy and can hit a target

That's a good point. I think rampe is advancing so well.

I see that Lamb has been named in the GWS seniors this week for the first time. Also Joel Tippett for the Roos.

So we might see Tippett playing at the scg next week after all ( just in the wrong colours)

Extended squad for both men. Think Jed has a chance but doubt Tippett will make it

Our history of making 'interesting' choices for sub may continue this week. It wouldn't surprise me to see LRT with the vest, Derrickx as main ruck and Pyke forward giving him a spell occasionally. With Tippo, Sammy and Goodes out of what we would assume is our 'best 22' forward line, we are very thin on the ground for tall options up forward. May also see Gazza playing a more medium forward out of the goal square this week. When Derrickx tires and fades midway thru the third, LRT on and Pyke in the ruck.

                    My theory anyway...

                        Lol, me too.

I tried to talk the Minister for War and Finances into getting the 6am flight back so I could go to the ressies, but she didn't appear keen....

I agree that subbing off Derickx some time through the third and relying on a Pyke-LRT ruck combo would be the plan but I think they would be comfortable having LRT play the whole match. Plus I think Horse is quite enamoured with having a swingman in the 21, and with Reid out LRT is the man. With the Crows omitting the taller LJ for the shorter Petrenko, I suspect that Laidler might get the vest as they don't really have a third tall (unless they're sneaky and throw Hartigan forward)

The team does not look balanced to me at all. Sammy Reid was one of our better players last week.

I would have thought we would of seen someone to come in to play the crumbing role in the forward line - which was non existant last week.

Ah well, lets see what happens on Saturday, but I must say I'm not confident at all, despite Adelaide having just as wretched a start to the season as us.

At least the forecast is for a warm, sunny day on a fast track. I'm convinced we are a 4 goal better side in the dry and a 4 goal better side in day games.

That 8 goal improvement may still not be enough given we are coming off a very low base...

I think we will win though.

Given we are going in with a makeshift forward line, we need to at least try and stretch an Adelaide defence with only 2 decent talls.....

                                So i'd go for:

                                McGlynn Pyke Parker

                                Rohan Franklin LRT
