Good for the highlights reel, but to be honest, I wasn't so impressed with him the few times I watched him closely this year. Can really drop in and out of games - but at the right club could flourish as well.

It makes you think the McCarthy deal could be see the Freo pick from next years draft used instead which would give GWS first rounders already in 2016. The AFL have indeed created a monster here.
It'll take some appalling list management for them not to be at the top for quite a while once they make it as far - as you've shown, with the ridiculous list of talent they've stockpiled, and an ability to trade out the surplus talent to refill the list at the bottom with new top talent, they are set up for a long haul of success.

I completely agree with your point about them pretty much farming their zone selections and that's it - they are not achieving a lot to create additional talent for the pool, or to expand the game into the frontiers that were envisaged.

And in Tippett whilst I prefer him alternating between the ruck and FF I prefer him as a second ruckman, probably the best second ruckman in the league actually. Which means IMO we need a good first ruckman for next year.

We'll be a bit overstocked for 2016 but Pyke will be good backup for 2016 but will hopefully get overtaken by season's end by Nanka or Sam.

At the end of next season we release Pyke and Tom D and hopefully have Sam and Nanka knocking at the door. Sam has re-signed for three years so the club clearly rate his prospects and you'd think they'd perservere with Nanka too. So by the end of next season we should be OK in the ruck stocks
        Sam is ready now.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

Dons considering Harley, want Leuey, says Worsfold - AFL.com.au

Meanwhile, Worsfold said the Bombers were interested in signing Brisbane Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger.

The 27-year-old is a restricted free agent and is weighing up whether to join the Bombers or the Sydney Swans in this month's trade period.

"We see him as a really exciting addition to the Essendon footy club," Worsfold said.

"We'll certainly be showing him how keen we are and how much value he'll add to our club going forward.

"I look forward to having a chat to him. He's a young man, he's a very, very good footballer and he'll fit in wonderfully."

Earlier on Monday, Leuenberger's manager, Paul Connors, said his client was deciding on playing at the Bombers or the Swans, with the race "too close to call".

Matthew Flynn is years and years away from being a ruck man at the AFL snrs standard

Have u seen him play ?

I saw an opposing 17yr old (only 194cm) smash him out of the ruck all game and Flynn must be 200cm

They have done stuff all for the game at grass roots in Sydney - their major deal was with Manly who are like the furthest club away from their catchment area. Campbelltown have fallen virtually into recess and wwhilst clubs in the North and Inner City flourish the clubs in GWS speak of getting next to no help with even junior development, all they do is mine the Riverina. They are talent spotters not developers and they should be called out on it

It would be hard to pass Leuenberger up if he was free I suppose

I watched some of the Allies vs AFL Academy on the weekend. Himmelberg was voted BOG and I thought Flynn showed a lot of athleticism for a player his size. Apparently one of the TV commentators asked Kinnear Beatson who impressed him and he said Flynn and Mabior Chol from Queensland. Anyway, Mug Punter has shot my cunning plan down.
                  Where's the remote?

The Lions look like having three quality academy recruits then, if even a team needed this system to work.....

Assuming they get Schache they'll be picking up four very good recruits this draft. Guess they'll get some compo for Leuenberger which will help pay for the academy kids. Not sure what more they needed to do to get a priority pick to be honest, surely Eddie has punished them enough for the flags by now

Himmelberg looked sharp, but his kicking was atrocious. He'd fit in perfectly at the Swans.

As for Beatson, he clearly has some sort of brain disorder where all he can think about are ruckmen. I suppose we will be trading for Lycett and Zac Smith this year, get Leuenberger as a FA and draft Flynn and Chol with the idea of eventually playing all ruckmen side.

Beatson has opened a new talent identification program in East Africa:

SO my most likely trade / draft scenario

                        i) Mills - pts

ii) Leuenberger - free move to sydney just contract going forward

                        iii) Dunkley - pts ?

iv) Key Defender / Swingman - Talia or Schoenmakers...........Talia free.......Schoenmakers a draft pick say pick 33 ......or trade say Bird ?

                        v) Jetta - we get pick 17 from West Coast ?

Sydney have already said they're not interested in Talia anymore.

It was officially announced this morning that Seedsman has requested a trade from Collingwood...I think he would fit in perfectly in Sydney, would fill our desperate need for a run-and-carry half back flanker.
