Yeah, said that as recently a few days ago. I wonder if the lure of the #1 gig and a long-term deal will change his mind.

I'd prefer Lycett but he seems less gettable.

Absolutely no interest in Dawson Simpson.

If Pyke retires as has just been reported, that creates urgency for a ruckman but gives us some cap space and an extra number to play with.

If we don't get another ruckman, we could use the savings from Jetta, Pyke and maybe Bird to front end some 2016 contracts.

It could leave us with more spare money when our trading ban expires.

We definitely need another ruckman but Pyke retiring should give us some cap space to front end a contract or two as well

Surely this clears the way for us to recruit Luenberger now

I wouldn't imagine it changes the situation much to be honest, we would have had the $450K available from the cash tucked away fro Jetta re-signing but it does allow us to maybe go for an additional experienced player on abaround teh $300K mark al Laidler who we couldn't have afforded before. I'd prefer us to use the money to front end a couple of contracts but that's just my personal opinion

i think if we look at recruiting from a perspective of possible GFs

I would prefer not to front load contracts...........I would much prefer to have the depth or key players to rival for a GF

That means for me we need more real experienced 22 depth

                a key defender
                a small goal kicking forward
                a ruckman
                a runn and carry back

if we have those four type of players we are a serious threat

if we don't we will struggle as a few of those teams outside the top4 are on the way up and we appear to be level at best if not falling behind

And without an experienced senior ruckmen for 2016....

I know the ruck role is over-rated by many, but we would be asking for trouble in my opinion if we went in with Tippett, the two inexperienced ruckmen in Naismith and Nankervis and Derricx as the total of our ruck stocks for 2016.

Totally agree and for all those i would like for us to recruit the following.

                    Key back/forward - Shoemakers

Running half back - Seedsman, although Dempsey is probably more gettable.

Ruckman - Leunberger (and hoping he can finally stay on the park!)

Small forward - Daniel Rioli (I feel this is perhaps the biggest need we have!)

Others who I'd like us to sign/trade for but probably won't are - Jack Watts and Matthew Suckling.

Both offer good skills and could thrive in a team if given a permanent spot with no added pressure.

Jack Watts has reportedly received no interest from any clubs at all, a bloke his size and with his skills would fit in really nicely with us. There's also reports floating around today that Schoenmakers will sign with the Hawks this afternoon which is a shame.

If we can pick-up Leuenberger, Seedsman and either Mitch Brown/Michael Hartley for peanuts then we'd have to consider it a successful off-season.

I think I'd actually prefer to get Watts than Schoenmakers (not that I think we'll end up with Watts).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

In terms of what we'd have to give up in terms of a trade and $$ per contract? Or you just think Watts is a better player?

I think Watts has the potential to be a far better player, I'm mindful it hasn't been realised to date but I think Melbourne has been a pretty horrible place for him to try to grow.

fully agree - he has all the skills just needs confidence and you can't argue there has been much of that at the Dees in his period of time there even with the inclusion of the Messiah Roosy
