Anything we can do to assist in Jakey getting to the promised land of Moorabbin as opposed to teh Hawks is fine by me.

If we can get the Bird deal included as well then that is great. As well as giving us more points it gives us two picks in the late 30s/early 40s after we have paid for Mills. If Dunks goes early or doesn't want us then we can still get two decent picks and even if we get Dunks we should still get a pick in the early 40s. If we can get the Bird deal done the only additional deal I can see might be a trade for a pick upgrade for Robbo

      Bird + 14 OUT.
      24 + 25 IN.

      Can someone do the math?

Pretty sure it means we get 49 points.

So Bird is worth 49 points! What pick is that?

Sounds like we're just chucking him away. He's better than that.

That doesn't sound like much for a player of Craig's standard. He'll be a big help in the Bombers ranks and it's too bad he couldn't stay with us. But I was told by another player that he's been unhappy since mid way through the year when it was clear he wasn't returning to the team. Or is 49 points a big move forward in the quest to get our two preferred picks?

We get an extra 380 points I think?

Which is the equivalent of pick 43

I was just being silly about 49.

I believe 14 = 1,161 but 24 and 25 = 1541, so it's an extra 380 points which is the equivalent of a 3rd round pick- which one could argue is about what we might have got in a trade for Craig, given he's been playing reserves, if we're trying to facilitate him getting to somewhere he wants to go. It's probably slightly below value, in the past we might have got a 2nd round pick?

R1 on Twitter has put it in simpler terms, it effectively turns pick 14 into pick 8 in the bidding sense.

Seems to me a strong indication that Dunkley has committed to F/S and we are working on stockpiling as many points as possible.

I was thinking the same thing. It also means we are 99% sure that Mills will be bid on at pick 3 or 4 because we've basically shown our hand and guaranteed that we'll definitely match it.

This trade isn't final though, we may be pushing for another exchange of picks or something

Extra 380 points, is about right for Bird given he's been a reserves player this year.

Our four picks that have a points value total 2324. Mills at 4, Dunkley at 21+ means we come out square this year, no influence on next year. If Mills could slip to 6 and Dunks a bit further we may still have a pick in the late 40s.

A worry now for us is that Wretchmond hold pick 19 that Carlton may not accept for Yarran. That's about as early as Dunkley will go and we know Wretchmond like him. I think Yarran for pick 19 plus a late future pick will get done.

We've done well as Bird would have slipped further down the (no pun) pecking order with Heeney, Mills and Dunkley pushing up.

On paper it looks pretty crappy for us but obviously there's a bigger picture to look at and that is the points we've acquired.

Bird is leaving? I don't like that one bit. I can understand why it is happening but we are definitely getting screwed on that deal, but I always think that around trade time, it is hard to watch premiership players leave. Who is going to be the first in when Kennedy, Parker, Mitchell et al are injured? Lloyd?
Bird is not a really a last-six-chosen footballer. He is more like a 9 to 16, and higher in most non finals teams.
In a different universe it would be Macca that struggled to get back into the team not Bird. Over the last couple of years I would have chosen Craig before McGlynn too.
