And at his age and recent form we'd be lucky to get a second rounder.
Tippett's actually on $2 million dollars over the next 2 years. They extended his contract earlier this year before his form slump.

Tippett's a good player, but is he really worth a million dollars a year?

Trade Gazza's pace? We're too slow. And he has height.

And I wouldn't rate any player off the back of the last two grand finals....you'd trade half the team at least.

Contracted to the end of 2018. Unless he agrees to a trade.

That's the first four years to 2016. That is now history and you'd be hard up to argue he's earnt it. All that is important is what he earns in 2017-18 and you'd hope it ain't $875,000.

As Danzar says, he is under contract and will expect to be paid at least what his contract to 2018 stipulates. And if we are overpaying him then we'll continue to over-pay him, it will just be on someone else's roster if we trade him. Unless we find someone who values him higher than us which I doubt.

Having said all that, for mine he is a massive disappointment. He's had his moments but generally he just looks too immobile for mine. I like him as a ruckman though, I guess we're all judging him in relation to his salary which is understandable but perhaps unfair on him.

Until he got injured Tippett was close to the best ruck/forward in the comp. There are a few folks on this forum with short memories.

I agree with Doctor, baffled by the talk of trading him. Before his injury he was a beast in the ruck, really dominating. And his forward work was strong. I was bitterly disappointed like everyone with his GF display but cmon take the whole season into account.

We need to spread the goal kickers around and be less reliant on Franklin. Furthermore, Bruest would be on less coin.
Come on guys, please read what has previously been said. We MIGHT lose Mitchell because of Salary Cap issues, that being the case we can't bring in a player like Bruest who is probably on as much money as Mitchell is asking for.

If we are paying Tippett $1 miillion in each of the next 2 years we are really stuck and have little choice but to trade Mitchell and take on young players until his contract expires. No one will want him at that salary. It's turned out to be a terrible deal unless he becomes the best ruck in the comp next year. We should try to offload Sinclair, because he's on $400 a year I think and will probably be playing in the reserves the next couple of years.

Just because Fox Sports News, that bastion of excellence in journalism, says Tippo is on a million dollars a year
doesn't mean he is. It just means they needed something to talk or write about as a "story". Something to keep
the gambling ads apart from each other. How on earth would they know? Have they seen his contract?
The AFL found that Tippo had his jaw fractured by a very unique air pattern between his head and the turf at ANZ.
It's possible this injury may have restricted him a bit in the last two finals he played.
I've noticed that every time we lose a game about half the people on this forum have a complete meltdown and
want to trade out or delist most of the playing group. I get that losing a grand final is disappointing. I've seen
four losses now, but no one held a gun at my head and made me hand over my credit card details to Ticketek,
                    Qantas, the hotel etc.
I have realised that there is another team on the field with us on grand final day. Usually they are just as good
at footy as us, and not everything will go our way.

                      ..............
                      LOL!

Tippett was recruited before we took on Buddy, who's $ details are fairly well known. So Tippett's two plus two deal which expired this year would have been done without knowing about the big $ Buddy is taking up in the Salary Cap.

Tippett's extension for 2017 onwards was negotiated knowing how much less we had available due to the size of Buddy's %. So no way is Tippett on anything like $1m/yr. Just so much crap talked in the media and on chat forums about salaries when in reality almost no one knows.

Tom Mitchell will not be squeezed out for the $ value of a fringe players difference in where the two parties are. If he is let go it's because he is seen as expendable in our forward plan.

Agree. I can't see why they would have a $1m, 2 year trigger after 4 years. No one could predict 4 years away what he would be like. $1m a year, not too may on that dough. And to have that hanging over their heads when they signed Buddy doesn't make sense.

Surely 3rd party deals come into some of this stuff so it is not necessarily in the cap.

The whisper is Towers to Brisbane (not sure what we get) and Nank to Richmond for Conca. There may be other sweeteners but they are the main rumours.

3rd party deals are what cost Kurt the first 1/2 season when he joined us.
