Sorry Nick, shouldn't have said that, still an integral part of our backline, my bad.

RWO'ers know that list management is a tricky business, particularly when you don't have a steady flow of retirements to create the space for new draftees & trade ins. Doubt we'll see too many cut this year and we'll run list the minimum 38 senior list to spread the cap over fewer players.

I personally don't think McVeigh should retire, still plays very good football, calm, good decision maker, good disposal and is a backline general. Although we've heard the club is delaying a decision, based on recent output he should go another year.

BTW also he's already debuted n honestly looked like a dear in the headlights which also could be a reason the club is playing the waiting game.
Of course he had his debut, my bad again! Dawson is playing much better NEAFL now than early in the year and in that game the senior team was not going well, a lot of players missing. He'd come in now after multiple BOGs and into a much stronger and cohesive senior team. Given the very modest output and standard of our 21st & 22nd players, Dawson must be given a chance, I'd take half his NEAFL stats any day at senior level.

Based on current form I agree. If his body holds out the rest of the year and he's willing I think he's worth keeping another year. He would also have to be willing to play NEAFL when required but it might be a good way to transition into coaching by playing some games in the seconds

I think he's getting close to the end. Rampe is a better one on one defender as he showed when he was moved onto Toby Greene v GWS.

And I don't like seeing Smith with ball in hand; certainly didn't v Hawthorn.

I'd like to see Marsh given a go in that role (someone else also suggested as a tagger) although 2018 might be when that happens.

According to Nick Bowen of AFL.com the deal to sign Reid and Jones has been done. Still nothing from the Swans Website?

I agree he's playing better than earlier in the year. I just hope people don't expect him to come in n explode on the scene with bog's. Just needs to be a contributor n it'll build as time goes by. I don't just struggle to find a reason why he's not playing in the seniors I'm at my wits end why he hasn't been emergency.

I cannot understand his constant omission either. Any person that get about five BOGs and is capable of getting 196 dream team points at NEAFL level, certainly earns my respect. Regardless of his lack of speed or whatever is stopping him from being selected.

They just re-signed him for another two years and you don't do that unless he has all the tools for AFL. Looks a step up from Tim Membrey from the few games I've seen!

Jones inks new deal - sydneyswans.com.au

The Swans' website has made Jones' re-signing official, though he's extended just for two years, not the rumoured four. That suggests that he may not yet be committed to playing his whole career in Sydney. Sounds like he's keeping his options open to return to Melbourne at some point in the not too distant future.

Yes, that's quite possible. Or it could be that he thinks that he still has scope for plenty of improvement, so therefore, he'll be able to negotiate an improved contract in a couple of years.
Anyway, glad he's signed, and it adds to the impressive list of players who have done so this year. Which gives me the impression that Tom Harley is a very persuasive negotiator, who'll hopefully make the transition to a very effective CEO.

He has trigger clauses that would take the contract out for another 2 years, but those are rarely made public until they are effected. Can't blame Jonesy to wait and see if his market value increases over the next 2 years and places him a better bargaining position. He has the talent to be a consistently high grade player. He could be like his brother, but with line breaking pace, which is quite an enticing package.

Nathan Jones is 29 (January birth date) so he might be retired/ or at least close to retirement by 2020 season. Which could lessen the Melbourne FC attraction for Zak. Money could still be an issue though, as Ludwig says above not unreasonable should Zak want to test the market again in two years.

Yep. Really pleased. I hope this settles him down a little, as he has seemed distracted and we need him to help pull us through this next month.
