I find it impossible to see how we could possibly fit Dusty into our salary cap given he'd be paid well over $1m a year.

And if we did then any questions to how could structure such a deal would be justified.

I'd suspect though that GWS could be in the running, the rumours are vague and the Swans are named explicitly. If Kelly was to leave that's $700K in the pot straight away and I'd suspect they still have a number of frontloaded contracts and perhaps quite a bit of salary cap space.

It will be interesting to see if the Tigers would threaten to match any offer thereby sending GWS to the trade table if they wanted Dusty.

Do people remember we wanted to swap pick 6 (became Rohan) and pick 14 (Jetta) for pick 3 because we were that keen on Martin? If I have remembered correctly, it was a while ago. Anyway would be fun if we ended up with him. All a distraction anyway - what's up with Jessie white - why is he not getting a game and can we get him back

Absolutely. Beatson, I think it was at the time, definately wanted him. Let's face it, we would have been much better off with Martin than Rohan and Jetta.

For the record, I can't see him coming to us unless we lost both Jones and Reid.

I expect Dusty would command $1.2m a year minimum wherever he goes so yes in theory that is probably less than what Jones and Reid would be paid.

But given we are on the record as saying we have offers in front of these guys and expect them to sign that would be a massive game of ducks and drakes being played by us.

AND we'd be trusting Dusty and his management to honour any agreement in advance (an illegal agreement) whilst we cast adrift two very good players. AND we forget that the Tigers have the right to match any offer, and I suspect they'd be able to match an offer we put up sans Jones and Reid (they may not be able to match a North or Saints offer), which would mean we have to go to the trade table and we have nothing of value in picks and I quite like our good players.

I'd also prefer to keep Reid and Jones instead of keeping Dusty, he's having a golden run of form at the moment for sure but I don't like him and I reckon he's a bad egg.

Who really knows what is going on but I'd be very surprised if he came here but I could see it make sense for him to go to GWS and they'd be able to make it happen I reckon

Im not saying I want him either. I'd rather keep both but it's pretty obvious this is how they pay his mill a year. Lower than expected offer to both n then there's your mill. But like I've said a number of times on here I'd rather keep both than have Martin.

How did we afford Tippett? We cleared out a heap of fringe players. Then how did we afford Buddy? We cleared out a heap more fringe players.

How do we afford Dusty? We clear out a heap of fringe players!

On a serious note, we couldn't possibly afford Dusty, as much as I reckon he would assist us enormously. If he wants to come to Sydney to escape the pressure cooker of Melbourne and get better weather, GWS are the ones that could offload players to make it happen. Devon Smith has been offered 2 years at $500K+ so there's a start, Kelly off to a Vic club, There's your missing $700k to make $1.2mill. Plus they retire Stevie J, and a few fringe players like Mohr etc.

If Martin did want to come to us we wouldn't be tabling offers to Reid & Jones right now. Surprised the club hasn't ruled out the rumour but then again they may feel it's not worth commenting on. Or it's true!!! :-)

I agree. I don't really want Dusty on our list as well. What I do want is to have the same freedom for our club to build the best possible list as others are granted.

The Hawks are a good case in point. They recruited two gun midfielders (both north of the border), offloaded some players along the way and they are praised. No trading ban. The Cats are allowed to grab the best mid in the competition, a good defender from the Blues and everyone says well done. We bring in a gun forward, offload players and are banned.

I would imagine Tom Lynch (GCS) would cost the same next year as Dusty does this year and I'd prefer him over Dusty.

We don't need Lynch but do need Dusty. All this fills column inches (he writes showing his age) for the press.

I would say most likely is dusty to GWS. Kelly out of GWS.

There is something big brewing because GWS have quite a few youngsters waiting for contact.

Maybe a good time to swoop on someone like Hopper?
