    2017 trading, drafting, list management

The exchange on AFL 360 was a little strange at the end of tonight's show:

Gerard Whateley: While we've been on air the Swans have announced that they've re-signed Zak Jones to a new two-year deal.
    Mark Robinson: Okay
Gerard Whateley: So that's, ah, that's good.
    Mark Robinson: Not bad.
Gerard Whateley: He's making really good progress.
    Mark Robinson: Let's move on.

Maybe something else had been going on in the background - who knows - but it was a bit weird.

I am glad he has signed. Two years is better than none, and it does give him more time to establish further links with the club and city - which puts us in the box seat.

Just got the email from the club about Zak. Great news. I consider his signing to be more important than SAMs but hopefully he'll sign too.

Great news on Jones, think the kid is a ripper and an important part of the culture for us.

Very very happy Zak has re-signed. The Swans email describes him as "a rebounding defender and goal-kicking midfielder" which is very generous of them. He's an OK kick but for some reason NOT when he kicks for goal.

This article suggests that it was Zak who wanted only two years.

'It?s understood Jones is backing his football to do the talking by only committing to a two-year deal, but Harley is confident the ace midfielder sees his long-term future in Sydney.'

'?Two years is where it landed and we?re really happy with that,? Harley told The Daily Telegraph.'

It's excellent news re ZJ. His signature adds to an impressive list of players we've resigned this year and solidifies our midfield.

I didn't realise Jones was so young (22). His best footy is ahead of him. Perfect player to re-sign.

                  Agree!
Yes he's outside run is very important to our structure and his best football is ahead of him. According to AFL.com, Reid also sign an contract with the Swans, has there been any update on that one.?

We have become accustomed at the Swans to long contracts, Heeney, Mills, Reid, Parker, Hanners etc signed 5 year deals but industry standards are more 2-3 years. Two years for Jones suggests he thinks he can command more money in 2020 onwards so no problem with that.

Once Reid is done we can relax until next year, nice place to be.

I wouldn't put it past Maibaim having a decent influence next year in the forwards if needed

The guy is a goer and played most of his juniors as a key forward

A year with Lockett this year sharpening his kicking at goal........priceless

I've watched Maibaum play forward for parts of a handful of games this year. To me, he looks like the epitome of a defender.

Have they been playing him Fwd in the NEAFL at all? It's a real shame Cameron did his shoulder as he's potentially exactly what we need

Yeah, I'm pretty relaxed right now.
As far as I'm concerned, no Reid news is good news at the moment.
                            Happy to trade him.

Longmire loves Reid and he has a lot of ability and versatility but agree he lacks killer instinct.
