Off to the draft kangas. Go to Tassie or fold while you are there.
After the 2's game today I suspect one should get on the Suns for the spoon in 2018.

Looking at our list for 2018 the depth and experience is looking great. I know some numbers get bandied about re the required experience and depth charges of lists that contend for flags but by the end of next year our games profile will be as follows. I've tried to take our best 28 and assumed Jared retires.

200+ Games (7) : Hanners, Tippett, JPK, Jack, Buddy, Reg, Smith
100-200 Games (6) : Parker, Rampe, Reid, Lloyd, Rohan, Cunningham
50 - 100 Games (7) : Hewett, Heeney, Mills, Papley, Towers, Sinclair, Jones
0 - 50 Games (8): Hayward, Newman, Florent, Dawson, Aliir, Naismith; Robinson, Marsh

Really good spread across the groups, the way we have rebuilt the squad on the run after losing all that experience a few years ago is brilliant.

I can't believe Hanners is at nearly 200 games already! He's well on track to pass 300.

It's a very well put together list, as you point out MP. Kudos to the Club!

Had couple of spare hours this afternoon and did some fiddling around with the data on club websites which is all in the same format for players.

I've taken the best 28 players per club based on games played this season. Rationale is you need a list that goes genuinely to 28 to compete.

            Avge Age Games
            Brisbane 23.57 1935
            Gold Coast 24.46 2432
            Carlton 24.56 2354
            Richmond 24.75 2439
            Melbourne 24.77 2482
            GWS 24.91 2646
            Pt Adelaide 25.17 2835
            Freo 25.22 2673
            St Kilda 25.32 2774
            Sydney 25.45 2884
            Adelaide 25.51 2575
            Collingwood 25.53 2842
            Nth Melbourne 25.75 2819
            Geelong 25.87 3018
            Wes Bulldogs 25.93 3008
            Essendon 26.19 3052
            Hawthorn 26.82 3588
            West Coast 27.19 3728

Some interesting points (well, I think they are anyway)
            * We are smack bang in the middle range but will start to become one of the older teams next year as we'll have virtually no retirements
            * We all knew Hawthorn were getting old but I didn't realise the Weagles were so old. Sure getting rid of Mitchell and Priddis with over 550 games and 32 and 35 years old will help but they need a major rebuild and soon
            * Brisbane no surprises on the age or games front
            * Didn't realise the Tigers had such a young list
            * Freo's stats does not reflect a club in rebuild mode, are they just rubbish? Ditto talk about the Sainters being in rebuild doesn't reflect their numbers. Ditto the Kangas with their number of games played, where do they expect their improvement from?
            * You'd think the average age of the Bombers will drop significantly with some retirements.
            * Doggies obviously have a couple of oldies retiring but even then you can see them being one of the older teams next year
            * Adelaide have close to the same average age as us but 300 games less experience

Good effort, MP. The Tiggers is the most interesting point for mine. They're in a good place it seems. Although I can't see them winning this year or even making the big dance.

I don't want to sound like a wet blanket but there is too much read into this simple statistic.

Sure, players peak in that 25 -28 period, but you also want to be replenishing younger players too.
For example, GWS are going to have a lot of players in that zone in 2 years time which should be successful for them, but they would want to continue there trading for draft picks strategy to keep replenishing otherwise there will be a sharp drop off once they get to late 20's

Hodge possible move to Gold Coast.

Reported by McClure so I'll believe it when I see it.

Absolutely refuted by Hodge earlier today, said he has no intentions of playing again, is banged up and wants to be a one club player.

Yet another complete fabrication by a journalist, very sad.

Like I've said before Melbourne media boys club do it n no1 bats an eyelid but an out of town journo does it n it's take his accreditation away n burn him at the stake. Rediculous. Like I said it was Sam Clueless McClure not surprised one bit.

With the untimely, and unwarranted, delisting of Jarrad Grant () I thought I would look at the 2007 National Draft, where he went no. 5 (Cale Morton another shocker at 4, going ahead of Dangerfield at 10). This has to be one draft class that Beatson doesn't want any record of wikipedia!! Veszpremi (ahead of Cyril, Harry Taylor, Rance, Callan Ward, Scott Thompson and Cale Hooker), Meredith and Bird, with O'Dwyer, Brendan Murphy, Jake Orreal, Matthew Beckmans (?), Aaron Bruce and Dean Terlich in the Rookie Draft. Horrendous. The only positive is we got in Mattner via a trade. Would this be our worst drafting effort in recent history?

Ugly when when you analyse it. Cyril or Rance would have been useful. I think Tigers take the cake when they had number one pick a few times and missed out on Pavlich, Buddy and Roughead amongst others!

Hmmmm, an 18 year old in 2007 would be in his absolute prime right now..

Pretty sure that draft pre-dates Beatson taking control of the recruiting. He was a consultant with the club at the time but I think Maxfield was the man in charge of recruiting (with Barham also still at the club but pushed aside from the "head of" role).

Didn't Cyril say that he wouldn't play interstate? Or am I thinking of someone else?
