Enough discussions, time to put some name forwards of who we should pick.
These players should fall in our picks.

Nick Blakey (of course): 195.0cm 80.0kg Forward
All our top academy picks seem (cough) to have an amazing run of injuries in their draft year!
All draft have a few elite players in them, he is one of them.
More than happy that the club is moving hell and high water to bring Nick in.

Riley Grundy: 194.6cm 79.20kg Defender
Brother of Brodie, he plays for Sturt, a strong club in the SANFL.
Has speed (2.91 seconds for the 20m sprint SA Squad), jumping capacity and the bloodlines.
Will add weight on that very thin frame in years to come.
Not sure if Maibaum is going to make it; should be setting the Ressies on fire but isn't.

Aaron Nietzsche: 183.5cm 77.15kg Midfielder
There being a lot of talk about SA boys, but this one should be in the mix.
Massive improvement all year, with lots more to come, but has speed and poise.
Plays for Central Districts, and won the 2018 U18 Torrens University Cup MVP Award.
In one more year he would be a top 10 pick. Perfect midfield recruit.

Ely Smith: 188.0cm 86.0kg Inside Midfielder
He has strength, clearance ability and distribution by hand and a 80-plus centimetre vertical jump.
We rely to much on Kennedy for the grunt work, would be great if he had some help.
Ready made AFL player who is ready to go round one.

Ben Silvagni: 194.0cm 84.0kg Defender/Swingman
We need someone like ROK, who can go forward or back.
Strong marking ability and the potential to play as a swingman, Silvagni can fill a role wherever needed at the next level.
Yes Carlton may match the bid, but they don't seem to excited by him.
They maybe won't match a bid around 40.

My guess is that Smith won't be around by the time the Swans get to pick their second player, not unless they're able to con a club into giving up a pick in the 20s for the three picks clustered about pick 40 once Blakey has been drafted.

Knightmares latest phantom draft. He's tipping Blakey to go between 6 & 12 which sounds about right. I'd be happy with this result as we would be able to use the balance of our 2nd and 3rd round picks.

This article rates how clubs fared in the 2013 free agency, trade and draft period, with the benefit of five years' hindsight. Different writers have contributed for the clubs and I reckon the variation in ratings is, in part, explained by that.

The Crows apparently "knocked it out of the park", and have scored 10/10. The recruitment of Eddie Betts as a FA is a large component of this, though Matt Crouch at 23 in the ND and Charlie Cameron in the rookie draft were also very good gets for them. The rest of their haul was just so-so that year.

West Coast score a 9/10, with the justification being based around Sheed at 11 in the draft and trading for Yeo with pick 28. Sure, with the gloss not yet off the premiership club, those two players look like great pick-ups, though the writer has conveniently ignored the fact that Sheed was languishing in the WAFL for much of this year and probably would have stayed there had Gaff not gaffed. And Yeo was great value, but the Eagles benefitted by being part of the swarm of vultures who circled around the Brisbane Lions that year and picked their team to shreds, offering crumbs in return. Other than Barrass, the rest of their recruits that year gave no value.

In comparison, the Swans score just a 7.5, despite the crown jewels in the recruitment being one Lance Franklin. I acknowledge it was primarily luck and circumstance that delivered him to Sydney, but if they're going to credit Adelaide with recruiting Betts via FA, surely the Swans get the same credit for Franklin? Curley, who wrote the Sydney segment, seems to have downgraded his recruitment based on subsequent salary cap strain, though there's really not much evidence that the Swans' cap has been severely strained since. And the recruitment that appears to have kicked the score up a notch or two was Rampe, despite the fact he was actually recruited in 2012, not 2013 (which is clear from the information they've listed at the top of the piece), so is completely irrelevant to a 2013 rating.

In comparison to the Swans' 7.5, the Hawks scored a 7 (with McEvoy as a FA and Sicily as a latish ND pick the only notable recruits for them that year), as did Melbourne (Salem, Hunt, Harmes, plus Tyson as a trade in - which ignores the fact that they traded pick 2 for Tyson, the pick used by the Giants to draft Kelly).

It's all a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously, and different perspectives on things give rise to different ratings, I guess. But I'm pretty sure Sydney would have scored a 9/10 at least had Ludwig really written this, based as much as anything else on AA at pick 44.

2013 was a terrific trade and draft period. We took 4 picks into the draft and each of those players (Jones, Hewitt, Nankervis, and Aliir) are likely to play 100+ AFL games. Obviously Nank is a sore point now but kudos to Kinnear for these choices. Add Buddy as some pretty impressive icing then it is is damn fine cake.

Knightmare has Gold Coast taking Rozee at pick 3 ahead of Rankine. I find that surprising as I would take Lukosius and Rankine as a pair and work like hell to keep them. They are mates after all. He has Sydney taking Will Hamill and Ben Jarvis at picks 38 and 39. Does not do 40 as that is third round.

I find it difficult to discuss list mgt issues without knowing which player is contracted for how long.

Wouldn't be a bad double if they could keep those two for 10 years.
Personally I think the Gold Coast are stuffed and we will see more good players leave once they get to 23 years of age like Prestia and Kade Kolodjashnij.

We need to stay vigilant to keep players like Florent and Hayward.

We don't get to pick and choose which picks are used for Blakey. If 26 isn't sufficient, 33 will be used next, with a later pick added to our haul if there are left-over points from pick 33. We don't get to use 26 and 40 and to keep pick 33.
