I agree. I can see why it may look a dodgy move on paper ('injury prone'; we have apparent depth in key position stocks), but I think he'll be an excellent player who would make us more dangerous.

The main problem I have with recruiting Moore is that it will cost a 1st round draft pick and I don't how he helps the team. You don't give up a first round pick if you plan to play him as a defender, especially for a forward who was moved back because he was failure up forward.

Most will agree that our tall forwards going into next season look to be Franklin, Reid and McCartin. So Moore would presumably take the place of one of those. McCartin? What happens to his development? This is move that will last until Franklin retires.

Then there's the problem of how to fit Blakey into the team, with forward being his most likely position, although he can play many roles. We will also probably have Sinclair and Amartey as further depth in the forward line.

Moore has talent, no doubt. Even if I were a fan, I still can't see how bringing him to the Swans makes sense. It only seems that he will be pushing another good player into the reserves. A preference for high end selections has to go to acquiring another dynamic midfielder, which means trading into a top 4 spot in this draft or going after someone like Dylan Shiel.

The Swans have ben linked to all sorts of 'name' players over the years, but few have actually come to pass. The media seem to link us with everyone.
The one that we will be remembered for was Buddy and no-one saw that coming.

I am not saying we won't get one this trade period, but I wouldn't be surprised either if we don't.
Maybe another blindside is coming, maybe nothing will happen.

I have to disagree . If we are moving on hanners , Rohan and ( to a lesser extent ) Newman , then we are going after someone. And so we should be !

May has officially asked for a trade. Has started talks with Hawks and Pies. GCS are having significant issues after losing two captains.

With 3 players on the way out so far, and another 6 or more to follow, the squad will be very different in 2019. Personally I think that it’s the right time for a reboot but I will always have fond memories of the great contributions made to our Club by Hanners and Rohan.

That’s very disappointing news for the Gold Coast that May wants out too. It reminds me of the dark days of the early 90s when many players left and there seemed little hope. I sincerely hope that something can be done to help them steady the ship.

What a fiasco GC have become. I don't think we should be in the market for May, but it does accentuate the need for us to go after an elite recruit this year just to keep pace with the competition. And this will only widen the gap between the haves and have-nots.

This also increases the pressure on St Kilda to make sure the Hannebery deal gets done. They have to land a big name player, especially with Polec going North and perhaps McGovern going to Carlton and Neale to Brisbane.

If Polec wants to go to North then maybe there is less room for Gaff at the Roos and he may be closer to coming to us.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

That's well argued, Ludwig. Another way of looking at it is there wasn't a game this year where he wouldn't have improved the team, playing forward or back. I think he'd play back, particularly when Reid plays, where he'd be the only truly tall, agile, one-on-one defender we'd have. That is, to play on the Cameron, Riewoldt, Brown types.

We lost Tippett this year and haven’t replaced him. Blakey is being groomed as a tall midfielder not a KPP.

The fact we’ve been playing an 18yo as a KPP demonstrates we have a major depth problem.

And Buddy will be 32 next year, so we need to be thinking about a replacement.

If he can stay fit, Moore has huge potential. I think as a fwd not as a defender. That’s one reason I think he may want to leave the Pies.

It’s a gamble, but one with massive upside.

I can understand your pessimism MB as I have same feelings to when hearing these type of whispers, but I was told on good faith from a reliable source with this. Just wanted to share what I heard. Time will tell I suppose.

                              .
Is he? According to Blakey himself (on a recent interview on the AFL site), he said he sees himself more as a potential forward, though "is willing to play anywhere the coach wants him to play".

I don't think it makes sense to pigeon hole a still developing 18 year old into a single position before he's even drafted. Chances are he'll play in a variety of positions anyway, as his career evolves.

                                My summary for 2019:

Jones will move onto our wing fulltime for hannes and upgrade Jones contract now

Mills back and time on the HBF and midfield

                                Melican backline

                                Smith backline

                                Naismith to ruck

                                Heeney FT in the midfield

Florent to take over the Jones role on HBF

Ling and Stoddart moving into our 22 and time on the wing and HBF rotation for speed

Given we will free up massive $ ie via hannes $ plus tippets plus Rohan’s plus Grundy and macca on minimal $ in 2019

                                1. Lloyd stays

                                2. Moore to the Swans in exchange for our next years 2019 first round pick

                                3. Hannes to saints in exchange we pick up Acres and paddy McCartin....and the saints first round pick next year (which balances out our first round future pick list in Moore trade)

                                4. Rohan to the cats for a late pick exchange in our favour plus Thurlow ?

                                5. Blakey arrives and we use our pick 13 plus some points ?

                                6. Newman, Towers and Robbo to GC for a pick in mid 20s which we use points towards Blakey trade.

                                7. Picks 31 and 34 still active in draft

                                8. KB surprise!!!!!!
