Getting depressed thinking we could roll over on this, might be time to break my run of AFDs and have a bottle of very good McLaren Vale Shiraz, I'll feel better after that!

Agree that a few clubs holding players to their contracts will send a message, let's start with us and Essendon!

If you want to get depressed, read this:

Essendon are pushing for a player to be involved in any deal to send Joe Daniher to Sydney after Bombers' list manager Adrian Dodoro described the key forward as "irreplaceable" on Friday. While Daniher will leave a big hole in Essendon's forward line, they are not necessarily wedded to a key forward as a replacement for him and are focused more on quality.

While a suitable Sydney player prepared to make the move would be the easiest option, Essendon are open to gaining a player from another club brokered by the Swans or Daniher's management. This does not mean, however, that Sydney's pick five or Carlton's pick nine - put on the table for Tom Papley by the Blues - would not be part of any potential deal, with the Bombers determined to maximise their return for their key forward.

Otherwise they have made it clear throughout they will hold Daniher to his contract with Dodoro confident there would be no negative fallout from the trade request if that occurred.

The Age have also suggested we should take the pick 9 Carlton are offering for Papley, as that's overs and we won't get a better offer.

Dodoro really does want to bend us over on the deal, a player and a first round pick. Daniher is "irreplaceable" but they'll take another type of player than a key forward in a trade for him. I think he's under real pressure. And he's really saying that the Bombers think they are in their premiership window, so need a player not picks, which would take time to develop.

I have a left field suggestion, which I'm sure would be howled down. We give them Josh Kennedy and pick 9 (from Papley). They need a Kennedy type now. We aren't really going to contend in 2020, and need to find a replacement for him anyway. Bite the bullet now and give him to the Bombers... Dodo can say he got his pound of flesh from us. Win-win-win.

Stop getting depressed reading Melbourne media stories. The local journos are on the teet to the local clubs. Hence, they run what they can get access to.

It’s like: As an alcoholic, the beer I can get my hands on is the best beer.
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

Dodo is delusional if he thinks the Essendon list is contending in the next few seasons. It's an ageing list with a number of key members over 30 next season and not much real excitement in their younger players.

We should just leave this trade, call Dodo's bluff, put 9 & 25 on the table, take it or leave it. I know I sound agitated by this potential trade, well I am, this has the potential to burn us big time and derail our next rise up the ladder, you can't afford to make costly mistakes in a rebuild. Will make Tippett look like a good decision in the rear view mirror.

            Gee this Shiraz is excellent!

I agree. I like what the Saints have done with Freo.

I'm drinking a cabernet blend having my first wine of the week.

Just out of idle curiosity, I consulted Dr Google, to see if Penfolds Bin 707 was a McLaren Vale Shiraz. After typing in Penfolds & Bin, helpfully, the only suggestion that the predictive text gave me was, Laden. Hmmm, Penfolds Bin Laden; well that would be a challenge for the marketing department. I mean, you probably couldn't even flog it in Saudi Arabia.
And yes, McLaren Vale Shiraz is the wine that I go for most often.

And on the Brown v Daniher comparison: I would probably go for Brown. Largely because of the injury and attitude concerns with Daniher. Although Daniher at his peak is probably better than Brown's peak, and Daniher doesn't fling his arms about and throw himself on the ground, like Brown does under pressure. Which I guess means that I don't really want either at our club.

Could you really handle having to watch Brown’s run up every week?

It makes me cringe and he doesn't play for us! Nice that LOLNorfies have to endure it!

Bin 707 is Cabernet and in true Penfolds style it's a blend of where ever they can get grapes from. Has skyrocketed in price, over $500 a bottle now. Out of my league, I drink a big rich McLaren Vale shiraz made "off the record" by a winemaker friend, $60 quality for $15 :-)

The one that I've been enjoying recently is Beresford 2016. I'm not sure how widely available it is, as I only get it from Southport Sharks? But it has all the varietal characteristics and is very good value at just over $20 a bottle. Even better value, when I pay for it with bottle shop vouchers, that were won playing trivia. And I think that the 2015 was even better, if any's still around.

Perhaps that could be our offer for Daniher? A second round pick and a few cases of McLaren Vale Shiraz to share around.
