All this "noise" that we're hearing from the Melbourne media regarding the trades of Daniher and Papley comes down to the fact that the Sydney Swans notoriously do not listen to the melbourne media or what is said by the Melbourne media. The constant talk and chatter about how much we should be paying or the "pressure" we're under to get the deals down to remove the logjam is what I put down to frustration on their part that they can't influence us like they can with the melbourne or western clubs.
their existence in their newly self appointed position as a "football journalist" (whatever that is) instead of fading quietly away from
the limelight and focusing their energies on maybe doing something vaguely useful with the remaining thirty years of their working

Listening to Barratt and Lloyd it did sound like their salary is being paid by EFC and/or JD's manager.
I found it telling that by the end of their 4 minute discussion about why the Swans HAD to give in to Dodoro, they'd talked themselves out of it, pointing out that Essendon hadn't been able to get him on the park for 2 years, and that they hadn't achieved any success (won a final) in his 7 years at the club, which somewhat negates the "irreplaceable" and key to the success nature of Essendon.
FWIW given they don't want draft picks, I'd give them McCartin and a second rounder for Daniher.
I'm intrigued to see how the Hill trade plays out today after the Saints called Freo's bluff.Comment

Just flipping everything around and given I am sick and tired of talking JD ???? and Essendon
If Reid Or Blakey wanted time return to Victoria
What would we accept as a fair deal for each player ?
What about Rampe? If a team was in a window of GF and desperately wanted a top line key defender such as Rampe - what would be fair in a trade ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

That’s more than WCE just paid for Tim Kelly ffsComment

I hope Freo are not bluffing. Saints are proposing a deal to Port of 12 & 18 for 10, Howard and Ryder. Port would be bonkers to go for that one sided deal unless they are desperate to unload Howard and Ryder.
On another tack do Carlton still need both Papley and Martin now they have Betts. Hope we keep Papley.Comment

This is illogical, as it suggests the Swans would be obliged to accept any demands.
Did he say the same about Tim Kelly and West Coast last year?

Do the bombers want a player in addition to 5 and 9? If so, and if we gave 5,9 and McCartain to them, how would most feel?
Speaking personally, I would be very angry and disappointed.

Or if we gave them Florent too. I hope they don't trott out the line about his family. It would be so disrespectful to the memory of his late father.
He really is worth a 1st and 2nd round draft pick I'd suggest. At a stretch, two first rounders maybe. But 2 first rounders plus one of our up and comers - ridiculous.
Offer 'em 5,25 and tell em to take their chances if they aren't happy.

Way overs, so far over it's laughable. We're not talking Buddy in his prime, we're talking about an injured player who has had ONE good season, the rest of his time, when not injured, have been average on the stats. Plus this is a player we don't need, what are we thinking?
5 & 25 is overs on what Daniher has produced so far, 5 & 9 is way overs that we'll be thought of as a soft touch in future. To suggest a player is lunacy. I'm hoping all this is just Vic centric media wank.
I know of very few supporters who want Daniher here, let alone paying overs for him. Happy to revisit next year if he still wants to come and he is still seen as a need.
I'd much rather go to the draft with 5, 9, 25, 28 and target four mids, hopefully we find at least two very good mids with those picks."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I note that Lewis Taylor is out of contract so could come to the Swans for nothing. He/we might be waiting to see what happens with Papley first?Comment

If we must offer up a player, dare I say it, Reid is the one. One often broken down player for another is fair surely :P

We should have been able to manufacture a bidding war between at least 2 or 3 clubs I would of thought - we should be telling papley we will help you get back to Melbourne, but cant guarantee to what club it might be. See what the real motives are behind it all...."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I think pick 9 is close to the best offer we’d get for Paps. Who knows what discussions are going on behind the scenes?Comment
-
It may well be Mark, it may well be. But you don't know what other offers might be out there if you don't find out - for instance, we could potentially extract another 1st rounder for the 2020 draft - which in theory could be of even greater value (depending on what happens with the Daniher trade), given the academy players next year. I just find it bemusing that we haven't gone harder to try and squeeze more out - if of course that deal actually happens."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I'm still curious about a non-player element of this. We currently have four picks from 44-63. I'm get they may be part of player trades, but curious as to how we use them to fold into our points needs for next year given - maybe barring 44 - they're effectively junk picks this year.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
