I know, right?
Were West Coast embarrassed because they couldn't land Kelly last year? No. Were any of a range of other clubs similarly embarrassed for failing to complete a trade? No. Would Carlton be embarrassed if they don't get Papley? No - nor would you see the Herald-Sun suggesting that.
Let's not forget, this is the Herald-Sun here. It is not a bastion of quality, unbiased journalism.Comment

I'm a fan. Bit of a risk but not really giving anything up and he'd be getting payed close to the minimum. Would prefer Bennell over Menzel as he offers more around the ground.I See It But I Don't Believe It!!!!Comment

Dodoro speaks on Daniher deal
By Sam McClure
Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro has arrived at Marvel Stadium, ahead of what could be a significant evening for his club.
Dodoro stopped briefly to address the media, stating that all communication between the Bombers and Sydney have been amicable and respectful.
"We’ll get in there and have a chat and see what happen."
Dodoro denied that Essendon have been offered picks five and nine as part of the trade to secure Daniher.

DONS LIST BOSS COY ON DANIHER
Sounds like the Bombers are coming around to the idea of losing key forward Joe Daniher - this is much less concrete language than we've been hearing from Dodoro so far.
TWITTER: Adrian Dodoro on whether Essendon would be open to trading Joe Daniher, should it receive a suitable offer: "We'll see what happens this afternoon." @AFLcomauComment

Suns prepare to re-draft Martin
By Michael Gleeson and Jake Niall
Gold Coast are preparing to re-draft Jack Martin through the pre-season draft as talks with Carlton over the uncontracted player remain in a stalemate.
The Suns have said they are prepared to hold firm on Martin and re-select him with first pick in the pre-season draft rather than allow him to go for less than what they see as insufficient compensation.
Sources suggest that presently, the Suns want to give Martin and their pick 15 to Carlton for pick nine and the Blues' future second-round pick.
Carlton don't want to do that, not only because they regard it as excessive but because they need pick nine to get the Tom Papley deal done. The Blues would propose to give nine for Papley and the Swans' pick 25. They would then pass on that pick 25 to the Suns for Martin.Comment

The trade was 54 and 63 for 48.Comment

Pick 48 = 302 pts. 56+63=306 pts. Carlton probably trying to help getting this deal done so we can move on with the Papley trade, now that we have his replacement. Sensible. Or maybe it is 56+54 to give Carlton an extra 100 pts as a down payment for getting pick 9 for Paps.
In any case, Taylor is a good pickup at that price.
Daniher should fall for 9 + the 2020 pick swap. We can go to the draft with picks 5, 25, probably 32 and 44. Not bad. And we should add to our 2nd and 3rd round 2020 picks in preparation for matching bids on Campbell and Gulden. It should be fine, unless Dodo spoils the party.
AFL.com.au on Twitter: "JUST IN: Carlton has traded pick 48 to Sydney for picks 54 and 63."
It'll be interesting to see whether Carlton do anything with those or whether they are just facilitating the Papley move.Comment

Lewis Taylor now officially a Swan, traded for the pick 48 we just traded 54 and 63 for. He'll even get to keep wearing 28 if he so wishes, now that Durak Tucker has been delisted.Comment

SYDNEY isn't prepared to put any players into the deal for Joe Daniher in a move that could jeopardise the potential trade. Sydney football list manager Kinnear Beatson said today that the club continued to talk with Essendon's Adrian Dodoro.
But he confirmed the club would not put in any players, meaning the best deal could be picks five and nine.Comment
