Any insight into their terrible finals record since 2011?

I just heard Longmire interviewed on Melb sports radio. Tim Watson said that he was offered a fortune to coach North. It would have made him the highest paid coaching the league. This was not discussed with Longmire in the interview though. They also mentioned the Kinnear story. Longmire said he knew nothing of it.

Apparently so! He played a total straight bar on questions around whether they will continue to chase Daniher.

                  Yeah no.
I do know that Kinnear's contract may only have a year to run on it... swans would be DEAD-SET STUPID to not renew it.
We ALL know he's the best in the business.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

But I wonder if GWS are also into Jackson given their ruck situation, which makes a swap with us much safer for Melbourne.
With arguably the best ruck division in the game with Gawn and Preuss, it's hard to see why Melbourne would want to add another ruckman. GWS, on the other hand, may well be in the market for Luke Jackson. A small defender to replace Shaw might also be a priority for GWS.

I could see us being interested in a ruckman, but not at pick 5. Maybe with one of our later picks. It hardly seems worth a pick, since we just don't play young ruckmen, and then they get traded out. Longmire likes having a lot of ruckmen on the list, especially on the injury list, where they're less likely to run away. .

Melbourne’s list manager said they were considering Jackson at pick 3, on the Road to the Draft. I think it’s as a fwd-ruck which Preuss is not. They can’t play Preuss and Gawn.

Why Preuss went to Melbourne we’ll never know.

I could imagine GWS being interested in Jackson or Young ahead of Green.

My dream draft scenario: with pick 5 we get Green. Melbourne and Adelaide let him go and GWS don't match our bid. The first part of the fantasy. Then, the talk is that Will Gould could now go pick 10-30 - let's hope he slides all the way to our second pick! After that I will be delirious and I can't think any more but I'm sure anything after that will just be icing. I would just love to hear our recruiters say something like "we couldn't believe he was still available and we just grabbed him" - like when we drafted Parker. This seems unlikely but the draft and new players arriving at the club is always a time for positivity. I'll most likely be excited whoever we pick.

I have heard the same rumours that GWS are into Luke Jackson. I don't know if that means they won't match a bid on Green, but I'm hoping for all I'm worth.

Great minds Bloodspirit. I would love to get Green and Gould. Gould as a potential Rampe replacement.

I think for us to get Gould we'd have to bundle up 25 and 32 (and/or future picks) and move up the draft. Even then we might miss him.

I've been convinced, since GWS did the deal to move up and sacrificed a tonne of points to do so, that their target is not Green. I think a bid at pick 3 (if we could get it from Melbourne) might not be matched.

I would be very happy if we got our hands on Jackson at 5. Probably a higher risk option being a ruckman and all, but apparently he does play like an extra midfielder (which few ruckmen effectively do), and if he's a decent forward option as well, probably worth it. As long as we get games into him early.

Could all end in tears of course.

If Green and Jackson are both available at 5 it'll make draft night very interesting...

I would love for us to draft Jackson even if it as 5. Bid on Green first, take Jackson once GWS match. He's a ruck so it will take a while for him to develop, but with his ability to impact around the ground, coupled with Blakey's ability to push into the midfield and McCartin's ability to play down back, we could use him up front at times as well and get a handful of games into him while his body develops. If he gets 5-10 games a year for the first 2 years that would be a good result considering young rucks rarely play regularly.

I'd also like us to package up our picks in the 30's and 40's to get a 3rd top 30 pick, or get some picks from the 2020 draft for points considering our academy kids Campbell and Gulden.

If we don't take Jackson then hopefully we look at Kemp or Robertson as inside mids.

With our 2nd rounder, I'd like for us to look at Sam DeKoning as a KPD to develop, his height and mobility makes him really interesting and we lack KPD depth. He'll take a couple of years to put on enough muscle to be a regular but he looks like a good pickup in the 20's. We've drafted enough pacey wingers and flankers recently. It's time to focus on the spine.

Because he's stupid? Can't think of any other reason

Don't think recruiting guys give much away at public quizings, they probably just reel off four or five names, maybe only two of those are in their sights in reality.

Wndering if we are into Kemp as a tall mid given we've just brought in Gray and Taylor with Gulden and Campbell also under 180. Intriguing draft this one
