After the ordinary start to the season I wanted to see how Longmire would get us up and going. He's done that with a very young team and with a collection of in-game injuries that have left us key players short for extended periods. He's a terrific coach and coaching well too. If he goes, so be it. And for a replacement..I don't think we have to look any further than North Melbourne. Rhyce Shaw will be an outstanding coach.

Really interesting how the flavour of this thread has changed . It was originally put in to allow everyone to go for it on Longmire after many other threads had degenerated into constant calls for his replacement, outdated game plan etc etc etc.
Now someone else wants him , he suddenly seems a very sensible choice and the reasons for the teams current position (which were always pretty much the same ) so much more plausible and understandable.
Its why I love reading opinion forums.Comment

Freo (away), Geelong (home), GWS (away) and then Port (away), all teams in the eight, or just out on percentage.
Those games will test Longmire's future on this forum.Comment

John is 49. Coaching is a volatile job - one just has to look at how the tone of this thread, including its name and raison d'etre, has changed. This next contract could be his last and then what? If North are stumping up considerably more than what we are currently offering, then he owes it to himself and his family to at least consider it. Loyalty is so short lived by clubs and their fans so I don't necessarily think he should blindly say no to North.Comment

Mr Magoo, I have to correct you. The thing that changed wasn't the North offer, it was the performance of the side. The North offer came after that (after we beat North they parted ways with Scott).Comment

I haven't been concerned that Longmire has been evasive until last night when he said "We'll have to wait and see". Then add the Freudian slip of "North" and I now feel like he is leaving.
If he has decided to leave, as a supporter would you want him to coach the remainder of the year? Do you think the players would want him to continue coaching?Comment

That’s the part that I found so strange in yesterday’s interview. All Longmire had to say was “I won’t be making any comment on my contract, which is club policy. So, I will leave it at that” and force everyone to talk about something else.
Everyone in the football world is now talking or thinking about the possibilities - including our players.Comment

AFL360 was interesting tonight in their discussion of the situation. Gerard Whateley made the point that a disappointing showing against Essendon might bring it all to a head.

I didn't see AFL360. Was Whateley implying that if we got thrashed by the Bombers: (a) the club would want to sack Horse (b) he'd lose the players, or (c) want to jump ship? I can't imagine any of those would be true, even if losing to the Bombers means we miss the eight.Comment
