As I said in an earlier post, our trading of late has been utterly poor, and the worrying trend of not being a desirable club to transfer to, is becoming chronic.

We have let go the likes of Aliir, Jones, Nankervis...also Rohan, who is a much better option than Grey or Taylor.

We have brought in nothing but fodder, and it looks like more fodder is on the way in the shape of a C grade 30 year old ruckmen...So disappointing !
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

I find it an absolute joke that we have a day to go in trade period and the AFL still can not lock in list numbers

Not saying we shouldnt have moved any of them on but name one where we did well at the trade
The reality is that is a list of players we didn’t rate highly enough to meet their requirements - so what we got back in return probably actually matched the value we saw in them.

Makes sense..... Hickey has a yr left on a deal as a 30yr old, clearly not rated at West Coast yet here we are again overrated other teams players and under rating ours

Im sorry but anytbing less than a big fish now is a disappointment

We had Pick 3 and 2 academy kids prior to letting Alir go

The hysteria meter on RWO seems to be set on eleven right now!

Rohan, Newman, Jones, Nank, Mitchell and now Allir.

We salary dumped | offloaded Rohan and Hanners, so they went for very little (a la Peter Wright at Gold Coast or Jesse Hogan). Jones and Mitchell were both out of contract. I think the club took a punt that we could persuade them to stay and as a result got less than if we'd traded them a year earlier (like Daniher). I also get a sense that if a player really is going, we do try and facilitate them getting to the destination of their choice. That might cost us something in terms of points, but I suspect we more than make up for it in other ways. We have also generally not stood in the way of players who were struggling to get a game leaving for more opportunity: Nankervis, Newman and Membrey fit into that category.

I think it's not a coincidence that we are struggling to be a destination club since (1) the loss of COLA, where we were able to pay more to cover the living expenses and (2) our fall down the ladder. Vying for the premiership makes up for less $ for some players.

I was listening to trade radio this morning discussing the Tom Hickey trade. They were pointing out that, as a player, you need to consider that it is significantly more expensive living in Sydney than elsewhere. That does make it harder for us to attract and retain players.

We 100% need to get in a mature centre bounce ruckman during this trade period. Hickey may not be the best, but I think he'll do the job. There was an analysis done of the salary of the ruckmen of the last 10 premiers. The general rule is that you want to pay as little as possible for someone that is serviceable rather than a superstar.

I really hope we get a little change from the WCE deal for Hickey. It's sad that AA is collateral damage.

Geelong just sent pick 30 to North for Shaun Higgins, who will be 33 in March. And we get a likely high 30s pick for a key defender in his prime.

And why does Geelong get a $23,000,000 salary cap and we only get $13,000,000? Why can they have everything? AFL rules are hard to fathom.

And I would like to add that the loss of COLA has a very long tail. It's still lingering on now. We are still saddled with the Buddy contract, which was made before the loss of COLA. These things just don't go away overnight. We have at least until 2023 to get over this one.

You could use the same argument about AA, only had one year left with us, PA offered him 4 ... I think WCE rate Hickey more highly than you think.

I don’t think we have salary cap issues, that is a media rumour and not confirmed by any swans management. McCartin moving back meant there was a squeeze in the backline. Obviously Swans rate Melican ahead of Aliir. Port offered security of a 4yr deal so I don’t blame the player for asking to leave and the Swans for letting him go. I think we will see the future 2nd round pick traded for multiple selections this year to match the academy points.

Or West Coast has just noticed the last 5 clubs that have rolled us and believe its now their turn

Only thing that would make sense if he goes for the same currency as Alir is if i see Cox at West coast next year

What do people think AA is worth?

Maybe, but why then (allegedly) trying to offload Hewett?

So after trawling Wiki, it appears we have 31 on the senior list.

If the list size for next year is 38, we can take seven point bearing picks to the draft, we currently have four - 3, 25, 58, 62.

Talk is that there will only be 50-55 picks this year meaning 20+ point bearing picks being unused by other teams, herein lies an opportunity to trade 25 & 58 for extra picks worth more points.

So if we take seven picks to the draft it will be pick 3, Campbell, Gulden for certain leaving four spots on the senior list and maybe five vacant Cat A & B rookies

It seems players who will either be late trades for picks or may have to wait until after the ND for us to redraft them are -

Wicks, Fox, McLean, Bell, Ronke, Foot, Thurlow, Clarke. Barry O'Connor has a Cat B contract for 2021

Where did you hear that? Firstly I thought he was going to the Weagles, secondly he's on good $ and we have problems in that area, third we are probably not desperate for players that can kick well, and lastly he's supposedly defensively weak, so I would think not a Longmire type of player.

(My comments guarantee we'll go after him now)
