58 & 62 could be burnt matching Campbell.
I reckon our biggest early threat is the Dodo at pick 6 which will be pick 7 after JUH is matched. Pick 7 is 1644 points, down to 1316 points with discount.
Pick 25 will be pick 26 (729 points) after JUH, 1316 - 729 = 587 needed, 58 & 62 only around 300 points, 287 needed plus Gulden!
So reckon we're working on something, maybe why AA was expendable?
I'm guessing we'll trade in some points-bearing picks between now and when pick 6 is called at the draft, perhaps by swapping a future 2nd round pick for some points. I'm quite sure the recruiters at the club are aware of the problem. I doubt that we would be going to the draft without some more picks, or a plan to acquire them."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

I think this is the last time I read this thread....the negativity is rife.....and extremely annoying! I'm no expert on trading, I'll admit that but to read the opinions of armchair experts is frankly depressing.
Some of our trading is testing fans patience and on the surface seems strange but please, keep the faith.
You people certainly are getting your knickers in a knot.
I was an AA fan too but I would start clinching my sphincter when he was our last line. Please take a look at Will G's tapes, he is the perfect replacement but (will be ready when timing is perfect IMHO) and has a far higher ceiling. Exciting.
We need a bloke like Hickey, he's not going to be a godsend but a great fill in whilst our young pick up(s) get bigger bodied. It isn't easy to cross the country with the destination being the highest COL. Stop gap folks.
I also am a fan of GH fan but three big bodies in the middle makes us slow, back surgery et al. If we can get a trade okey dokey, if we keep him fabbo.
The points game for C and G, I can't remember who posted the genius post of looking at where our picks will be when every team has played their picks for their F/S and NGA boys, will all sort itself out and all will be well. That post was a moment of clarity and sanity sadly lacking in this thread ATM.
Settle down, enjoy the ride as all will be revealed soon enough. We do not need to panic, get in a big trade or sell the farm.
Been around for 6 decades as a Swans supporter and this panic is ridiculous. Easier watching the election in the USA and all the rubbish after it.Comment

Early to Mid second round probably right. Port future 2nd rounder is probably a late second rounder.
but if we get Hickey and late pick this year in return for this Port pick... we are probably OK.
Dean Cox will have to work his magic on Hickey to get him firing.Comment

Sounds like something I posted at post #3722. It has a couple of errors in it, and I was making the assumption that the Western Bulldogs and Sydney made some pick swaps to reduce deficits, but the intent was to show that Sydney's not the only club with F/S and NGA players to recruit and how our later picks will improve in value.Comment

A young ruck and an old ruck is a useful combination, such as Ball and Jolly in 2005 (nine years age difference). Hicky/Vardy and an 18-year-old would be 11 years. The Western Bulldogs have just recruited Martin from Brisbane so they have a 10-year age difference between their main rucks. It's a sound strategy. It got us a premiership in 2005.
If we don't end up drafting a ruck, then we can start with the shockwaves of laughter. But let's see how it plays out first."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Don't think we need Hickey - waste of space. Would have preferred a Stefan Martin. If we believe in Naismith he would be back on the list in 2022. Martin would have left the ruck in that year. We then could have used the points from AA to help with C & G, or kept them for next year. Poor recruitment by the SwansComment

I think that Aliir is worth a pick in the teens and if we needed a key defender, I would do that trade.
Given by how smoothly the trade went down, it's pretty obvious that this was in the works for some time. His manager, who I think is Paul Connors, would have been in contract talks with us during the year, and we would have known through Commors that PA were willing to offer him more money than we could afford to spend.
We can piece together a few facts that give us a window into our thinking about how our list stands. We delisted a key defender in Maibaum and then traded out Aliir as well. We also delisted 3 other players who were thought to be HBF tyepes in Stoddart, Reynolds and Rowles. So there must be a lot of confidence that we can fill the key defender spots with Brand, Melican, Gould and BOC, with help from McCartin and Dawson, if needed. We can even omit Fox, O'Riordan and Mills from defence, going with Rampe, Lloyd, Cunningham plus 3 of the 6 players named in the previous sentence. So even without Aliir we have a lot of depth, even though 2 of them haven't played a game yet. There were some positive reports on O'Connor during the year.
It's true that it's yet another trade period when we're getting poor value, but I don't think it will make any difference in our performance in coming years. I'm not thrilled about Hickey. I think he's a mediocre ruckman. But at least we go into the year with 2 mediocre ruckmen instead of 1.
Just like in the days when Tom Derickx was here. I can hardly wait the next season to start.Comment
