Considerations will go much further than just taking the best midfielder though. No use taking Phillips in my view as he sounds just like Gulden and there is always a risk with boys from Melbourne City area that they will learn from us and then head back to one of the big melbourne clubs at the first opportunity.

I would look at the highest ranked key position player and take them with an early pick. That way you are assured of getting them and then getting campbell and gulden following. There seem to be plenty of names in the top 20 discussion mix . It really wouldnt hurt to take them earlier than they may be expected.

Should Gold Coast have not taken Rowell or Anderson then?

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, but it's the season's first AFL Draft Central Power Ranking.

Draft Central Power Rankings: July 2020 - Aussie Rules Draft Central

For what it's worth, with no recent form to go on, they have Campbell at 6 and Gulden doesn't make the top 20. Although they do mention him, by saying that some keen observers would question that omission.

Is Bell a senior listed player these days? And McLean? I've lost track.
I think Cat A rookies can play without being elevated to the senior list. (Unlike Cat B rookies.)

I am not sure about Bell. But I think he has been in the emergency list on recent games.

The Herald Sun's "injury ladder" ranks the Swans at 4th (worst) having lost the equivalent of 35 games worth of best-22 players in the first 7 rounds. Which means on average we've had 5 best-22 players missing per game. (worst is Norf with 51). That seems surprisingly low to me given we've had Buddy, Reid missing all year (=14) Naismith gone for the season (=5), Heeney, JPK (2 between them), Melican (5 or 6), Brand, Sinkers, Ronke etc. Maybe its a question of who is "best-22" given Sinkers didn't play round 1.

Rowell and Anderson were (a) the widely agreed two best players in the whole draft; (b) best friends, an important factor for the Suns who have had problems with player retention; and, most pertinently, (c) are actually much more different players than Campbell, Gulden and Phillips are from each other (well that's my impression based on limited information anyway).

I don't want us to take three small mids with three high picks.

Was referring to those two being Melbourne city boys who will certainly want to go home.

I don't agree with the notion at all. We have a few Melbourne city boys on the list who haven't requested to go home yet.

Having just read the afldraftcentral power ratings, I think I have no idea what I'm talking about. I will just shut up and back our recruiters to take more or less the best talent available at our picks.

                        A bit of trivia.
Elijah Hollands' father Ben was originally drafted by Sydney before being delisted. He ended up playing some games with Port and Richmond.

Love the pic. Jamie Lawson was so exciting - nice to be reminded of him. Probably played around the same time as Ben Hollands (not to be confused with Ben Holland, brother of Nick).

Time will tell but history would say no . They have struggled to hold onto anyone . Fortunately though , they now have enough critical mass of top picks that like gws , even if one of those two go they should hang on to a few with some sign of success .

Just for the record, Gulden is short, but there are some really good short players running around the league, like Caleb Daniels. Campbell is not short. He's already listed at 180 cm, and still might have a bit to grow. In any case, 180 is not short.

Unless we go on some sort of a winning streak, we should be able to have a top 5 pick. We could use the pick in this draft, trade it for a pick in the 2021 draft, or use it to recruit a player from another club.
