2020 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
I don't see why we need to enter a recruitment race with anyone. We offer Joe a contract we think is fair, as if he were a UFA. I think if we agree to terms with Joe he will find his way to the Swans. The play for Essendon was last year. They blew it and we lucked out. I think they just take the AFL compo and move on. If we can't reach an arrangement with the parties, we let it go and move on.
We shouldn't be desperate to recruit a high risk player. Things are going well enough without Daniher. Our first pick this year can be used to draft or recruit a KPP, if we want.
Not sure why we should waste any money on a chronically injured player. If we do, we would have Reid, Buddy and Daniher on the books. Insanity to take the risk that they would be consistently available.
Interesting that Terry Wallace says we have the best young group of kids under the age of 23 in the AFL on SEN.
Names McCartin, Stephens, Dawson, Rowbottom, Blakey, Florent, Hayward, Mills and Papley, Heeney, (though the last two are 24). Jumping on the Swans train....

Nice to hear that. Our challenge now is to retain that group and build on it. For the record, I think the young group at Gold Coast is hard to beat!
Its a question of whether we'd rather put together a big enough contract to outbid the Bombers (and guarantee a first round compensation pick) or pay him less but give up draft picks via trade. PSD is pretty risky I'd think. We might think its less of a risk to trade than to have to guarantee a lot of $ in his contract.
So, if we want Daniher we might have to do something like split our first rounder for two lower first rounders and use one for Daniher, one for Campbell.
Daniher wants out of the Melbourne spotlight so he wouldn't even speak to a Melbourne team.
Like Martin last year, Dees didn't even talk to him despite having a pick before Carlton.

Longmire was asked on AFL360 last night whether Buddy will be playing this year. Said Buddy has been running & will wait another few weeks to see how he pulls up.
