What you pay for Cox in trade terms depends on how much of his salary you are willing to pay. It really seems like the Pies are in real trouble cap wise and are struggling to re-sign players they want to keep. They desperately need to offload a high priced player or two.

Pay the whole $600k Cox is on in 2021 and he's free, plus Eddie will promise to never say bad things about us again in public. The more of Cox salary you ask Pies to pay, the more they will want in picks, albeit late ones or later 2021 picks to pay for Daicos Jnr touted to be in Pick 1 territory next year.

Allegedly they want to move out Cox so they can replace him with Tom McDonald on the same money.

Bucks did say they’d be active players.

It sounds like not all of this is salary cap related at the Pies.

Anyone remember Ben Hollands? Was a NSW zone selection and played reserves with us back in the late 90s before moving to Richmond for a couple of years. Turns out Elijah is his son.

Darcy Cameron's ruck time was up there with Grundy's during the finals.

They obviously rate him a better ruckman than Cox.

Is there a legal risk to the club if we recruit Paddy McCartin and he suffers a career ending head knock and can’t work and suffers ongoing symptoms?

My thoughts exactly. No way would I be including pick 3 as part of any deal for Cox. However, we might be able to absorb some of that salary if he's a player that we can use (and if he's as good a ruck as Ludwig thinks he is then we can definitely use him). I guess the issue with Cox as a number 1 ruck is that he may not have the tank. He might be good enough but not able to sustain it. I suspect we'd need a second ruck. Which is where someone like Thilthorpe could be awesome! A 50/50 Cox/Thilthorpe could work. Unfortunately trade period will be over before we know who we're getting in the draft.

My response to that is similar to the one I made about Granger-Barrass. Drafting Thilthorpe would be for the future, not the immediate. Trading for Cox (or Hickey) would be about the immediate - and the short-term immediate at that, given both are around 30 years of age.

It's pretty hard to get excited about either Cox or Hickey. The fact that they are on our radar just shows how average
Sinkers is, and how little faith there is in Naismith's fitness.

I’d prefer Majak Daw to Hickey and Cox.

To trade pick 3 as any part of getting Cox would be ludicrous. Cox is an overpaid toiler at best who has played a couple of match winning games . We need a stop gap Ruckman for a few years not a forward who can sometimes ruck hence we are targeting Hickey. The sample size is to small for me with Cox to see if he could be our number 1 ruck.
The cupboard is bare or our hands are tied somewhat if all we can target is Hickey and or Cox

I'd like to think Dean Cox is having a good say in who we may decide on to solve our immediate ruck dilemma, we are really just looking for some assistance for two years whilst we survey the upcoming seasons for ruck options.

Liz is absolutely correct in saying that the type of 18yo we recruit is looking medium/long term needs, rarely does an 18yo draftee have much immediate impact. We have correctly decided on a rebuild that is well underway, the definite (3, Campbell & Gulden) three picks we take this year will be part of that future plan, pick 3 will be a complementary piece of that plan and luckily, depending on Crows & Norf, we have KPF, KPD & mids in the Fab Five as Twomey called them to make our choice.

No way we do anything with pick 3 other than take it to the draft to select one of the Fab Five.

The way they are treating Treloar makes me suspect he has done a Wayne Carey with another players wife

I’m not a huge fan of his but the interest in Hickey makes sense - I’m sure we tried for a good young up-and-coming ruck, but Plan B is a serviceable ready-made option who represents value (ie. won’t cost much in a trade and wouldn’t be on huge money). And Hickey sounds like he’s open to moving to Sydney so we don’t have to over-pay to entice him or compete with other offers.

Paying a guy like Mason Cox $500K when he’s not a genuine ruckman and 30 y/o would be crazy.

I think that’s our logic with all the other key forwards who have been available - on too much money and most of them late 20’s, most with various question marks anyway.

You see the trouble other clubs are getting into clogging up their cap with guys on big $ (and many of them average players) - I think we have a ‘we’re not overpaying for anyone’ strategy which I’m totally OK with.

Matt Rendell on Trade Radio just floated the idea of the Swans chasing Crouch from Adelaide in return for next season's first rounder. This is based on the St. Kilda deal falling through.

His argument is that Josh Kennedy is near the end and Parker may be past his best so Crouch would be a good addition to our midfield. Thoughts please.

Don’t know about that but It’s glaring that barely any of his teammates ( other than Cox made a vague post about the media ) have come out in support after that Journo claimed his teammates didn’t want him there. Something’s not right at Collingwood, I suspect Bucks ‘nice guy’ image outside the club may be a little different internally.
